ASSISTANT MUSIC LIBRARIAN

Job Description: Known for its leadership in distance learning and its mission to serve, J. Y. Joyner Library, East Carolina University (ECU) seeks a well-rounded, creative, and service-oriented individual for the hybrid position of Assistant Music Librarian.

The Music Library, located in ECU's Fletcher Music Center, is staffed by two faculty librarians, three full-time support staff, and student assistants. Under the direction of the Head of the Music Library, this hybrid position incorporates a variety of public and technical service aspects. Public service responsibilities include reference, library instruction, and general library supervision, which requires some evening and weekend duties on a rotating basis. Technical services responsibilities include oversight of all Music Library cataloging activities using OCLC and the Sirsi-Dynix Symphony integrated library system. Serves as Music Library webmaster with responsibility for both the intellectual content and technical maintenance of the Music Library's web site. Serves as liaison to the School of Theatre and Dance, as well as to Joyner Library's Discovery & Technology Services Division.

Finalists will be asked to make a brief presentation during the on-campus interview.

Minimum Qualifications: ALA-accredited master's degree or international equivalent; an academic degree in music; experience and/or substantial coursework in cataloging; familiarity with technology in a library setting; excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills; ability to work effectively with staff and users.


Special Instructions to Applicants: This is a renewable 12-month contract position with faculty status. $45,000 minimum salary with a comprehensive fringe benefits package. Subsequent contract renewal is subject to university hiring guidelines.
