UNIVERSITY LIBRARY TECHNICIAN - JOURNEY

Job Description: The primary purpose of this position is to catalog library materials in the library catalog, and create descriptive metadata for items in the digital collections database. These materials, which include print, media and electronic forms of information, support the research mission of the university community and the library faculty and staff. Access to the library's resources is vital to every patron of Academic Library Services.

Special Collections Cataloging Department provides metadata for materials curated by the Rare Books and Manuscripts Department, North Carolina Collection, University Archives, Digital Collections, and TRC (Teaching Resources Center), including books, maps, broadsides, prints, media, manuscripts, archival collections, kits and manipulatives, and digitized objects. Metadata (a.k.a. cataloging) allows the library's materials to be discoverable via the library catalog, OneSearch, WorldCat, and various other databases.


Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalency and two years of experience in library services, office support, or related field; or equivalent combination of training and experience.

This position is subject to the Career Banding Salary Administration Plan. If candidates are not identified at the Journey level, management may consider candidates at a lower competency level. Pay will be commensurate with applicant's competencies as well as budget, equity, and market considerations.

Salary Grade Equivalent: 61 (for reduction-in-force priority purposes only)
