PHYSICIAN EXTENDER I

Job Description: The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine seeks a Nurse Practitioner/Physician Extender to provide a full range of psychiatric and other mental health services to patients and their families to include the following: initial assessment and recommendation for care; comprehensive psychiatric evaluations including a comprehensive mental status examination; diagnosis of psychiatric disorders based on DSM-5 criteria; crisis intervention as appropriate; prescribing non-pharmacologic cognitive, behavioral, and other psychotherapies; ongoing group and/or individual therapies; prescribing pharmacologic agents and providing ongoing medication management; ongoing management of laboratory reports (order, review, intervene); periodic evaluation of patient progress and future treatment recommendations; treatment of minor or chronic medical conditions that may co-exist with mental health conditions; participation in providing educational experiences for learners; and participation in development, implementation, evaluation, and outcome monitoring of clinical care provision. Duties will be performed under the guidelines established by the state board of medical examiners and in collaboration with a licensed physician.

The ECU Brody School of Medicine is affiliated with Vidant Medical Center. Vidant Medical is the flagship hospital for Vidant Health and serves as the teaching hospital for the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University.


Minimum Qualifications: Graduation from a physician assistant program approved by the North Carolina Board of Medical Examiners and "approved to practice medical acts" based on education and experience by the Board of Medical Examiners; or graduation from a Nurse Practitioner Program approved by the North Carolina Joint Subcommittee and licensed by the NC Board of Nursing.


Special Instructions to Applicants: This position is subject to the Broad Banding Salary Administration Plan. Pay will be commensurate with applicant's competencies as well as budget, equity, and market considerations.
