ASSISTANT/ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR

Job Description: The Department of Engineering and the Center for Sustainability (CfS) at East Carolina University (ECU) invite applicants for a nine-month full-time tenure track faculty appointment at the Assistant/Associate Professor level. Successful candidates will receive a joint appointment in the Department of Engineering (rank department) and in the CfS. This position will meet critical teaching, research and service needs in both organizations. Successful candidates must hold an earned PhD or equivalent doctoral degree(s) in engineering, however; ABD with significant qualifications may be considered for initial employment as Instructor. A demonstrated interest in interdisciplinary research and education is required. The successful candidate must be able to serve as a catalyst for new research projects and have the ability to lead and facilitate collaborative multi-partner research programs.

The Department of Engineering is seeking to expand its research and teaching capacity in natural and engineered systems on the environment, and establish engineered systems that function under ecological and socio-economic constraints. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to: coupled engineered-human-natural systems, public health, urban and restoration ecology, renewable energy, sustainable agriculture and food production, air quality, solid waste treatment, geographic information systems, life cycle engineering, sustainable manufacturing, and greening engineered systems. The CfS is an interdisciplinary research and outreach center housed within the College of Engineering and Technology. The CfS is charged with managing the interdisciplinary Master of Science Degree in Sustainable Tourism, the first of its kind in the nation. The CfS is devoted to implementing sustainable practices in business operations, public policies, and individual travel behaviors and offers solutions to challenges facing business and industry, government and individuals as they balance economic viability with socio-cultural and environmental enhancement and equity.


Minimum Qualifications: A PhD or equivalent doctoral degree in engineering, however; ABD with significant qualifications may be considered for initial employment as Instructor. Rank will be commensurate with education and experience. A demonstrated interest in interdisciplinary research and education is required. All degrees must be from regionally accredited institutions.
