Assistant Prof. of Spanish, 9-month, Tenure Track

Samford University’s Howard College of Arts and Sciences invites individuals interested in serving in a Christian university environment to apply for the position of assistant professor of Spanish in the Department of World Languages and Cultures. This position is a tenure track, 9-month faculty appointment and carries a 3-3 load.  Position will begin August 2020.

Candidates must have a Ph.D. in Spanish.  The successful candidate should have experience teaching and developing courses in Spanish for the Professions (e.g. health professions, business, translation and interpreting) and should have a strong background in the humanities (interdisciplinary studies, Latin American studies, etc.).  Secondary expertise in pedagogy is desirable.  

Candidates must show evidence of excellence in teaching, outstanding scholarly potential, commitment to undergraduate teaching, and have an active research agenda.  Candidates should have native or near-native fluency in Spanish and English and meet the eligibility requirements of U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. Candidates will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses.

The Department of World Languages and Cultures has 12 full-time faculty and 110 majors and minors.  Degree programs include French, German, Global and Cultural Studies, Language and World Trade, Latin American Studies, Spanish, and World Languages and Literature.  All faculty in the department encourage undergraduate research, advise department majors, and contribute to other services in the department, college and university.
