Writer, Part-time

The Writer (part-time) is responsible for a variety of strategic content creation for publication in and distribution via the Chapman Magazine (Chapman’s publication for the Chapman Family), Forward (Chapman’s research magazine) and its online News Room. Additionally, the writer will create copy for advertising, brochures, newsletters and recruitment material. Must have excellent writing and reporting skills. Must be an accomplished proofreader, fluent in AP Style, sensitive to deadlines and able to work as part of a fast-paced team. Previous experience/education in journalism/reporting, marketing copywriting, communications specialist or a similar role required. The Content Writer (part-time) reports to the Director of Content Strategy and will play an integral role on the Content Team.

This position is a staff, non-exempt, part-time assignment schedule to work 20-hour a week.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, English or similar educational background.

  • Significant experience as a writer who is comfortable writing for various audiences and purposes.

  • Skilled at reporting and interviewing.

  • Must be responsive to deadlines.

  • Must have a high degree of accuracy.

  • Familiar with AP Style.

  • Competent with common platforms, primarily Word, Outlook, Gmail, Google docs, Google Drive.

  • Self-starter who thrives on a fast-paced team.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work with diverse individuals and groups.

  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work with diverse groups of individuals at all levels of the University.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, tact and diplomacy.

  • Strong technical skills to learn and use University enterprise systems.

  • Ability to learn and interpret university policies and procedures.

Desired: 

  •  Knowledge of Chapman University policies and procedures.

  • Previous experience in higher education, in particular marketing and/or communications.

  • Experience with Wordpress.
