PROGRAM AREA DIRECTOR


Position Summary:
The University of Wisconsin-Madison is seeking a dynamic individual with strong leadership and organizational skills to fill the position of Program Area Director, Learning Design, Development and Innovation. The Program Area Director assists the director in leading the curricular, pedagogical, and technological design and support of the Learning Design, Development, & Innovation (LDDI) online and blended programming for the Division of Continuing Studies (DCS). The Program Area Director is also responsible for assisting the director in establishing partnerships, locating talent and promoting innovation in technology-assisted learning.

Degree and Area of Specialization:
Masters degree in a field related to distance education, instructional design, or information science;

Minimum Years and Type of Relevant Work Experience:
-At least 5 years of experience each in instructional design, faculty development, and teaching online at the college or university level;
-State and/or regional recognition in the field of online learning;
at least 5 years of experience in higher education or continuing education program development and deployment;
-Demonstrated ability to collaborate with a variety of constituencies;
excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written skills.

Well qualified applicants will also have:

-A terminal degree in an academic subject area;
project-management experience and certification;
-Development and facilitation of faculty-development or training programs for higher-education and/or industry audiences;
organizational and talent-development skills, especially in the creation of online courses and oversight & training of online instructors;
-Work history and current network of contacts with community colleges, universities, K-12 schools, and business and industry training divisions;
-Conference planning and collaboration experience;
-A significant record of research and publication in the field of distance learning; and
-Ability to travel to conferences and events in the field of distance education.
