CAMP COORDINATOR - UPHAM WOODS


Position Summary:
The Camp Coordinator is responsible for assisting the Program Director in overseeing, promoting, developing, and evaluating all summer or academic year camp programming. This position assists in the training, mentoring, and evaluation of naturalists and program marketing, coordination, and development. This position is also responsible for teaching the classes, leading the programmatic activities, interaction with center clientele, and care for programmatic equipment which includes the science center animals. All of the above is done with a focus on customer service and effective educational methods in a safe environment.

Minimum Years and Type of Relevant Work Experience:
Required Qualifications:
- Experience working with youth in a residential setting.
- Ability to work in a team setting with enthusiasm and creativity.
- Experience coordinating facets of a camp program.
- Ability to supervise, track and mentor staff.
- Ability to teach Upham curriculum with a positive and open approach.
- Experience responding to after hours or weekend facility or program issues for a nature center, camp, school or other similar institution.
- Familiarity with outdoor adventure pursuits and their associated equipment, such as hiking, camping, canoeing, etc., as well as a general understanding of low impact camping techniques.
- Understanding of computers, including commonly used programs such as Word, internet searching, as well as most social media outlets.
- Ability to work independently.
- A general understanding of the field of camps, environmental education, and youth development.
- Ability to handle reptiles and amphibians in a presentation setting.
- Ability to work flexible hours any day of the week including some evening hours
- Ability to occasionally lift and carry 50 pounds
- Ability to hike at least five miles on uneven terrain in a wide variety of temperatures and environmental conditions

Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience training camp staff
- Knowledge and ability to handle birds of prey in a presentation setting

License or Certificate:
Required:
- Ability to obtain UW driver authorization
- Ability to obtain lifeguard certification
- Ability to obtain CPR and First Aid certification

Preferred:
- Lifeguard certification
- Advanced First Aid and CPR certifications
- Professional certifications in any of the activities which we commonly offer, such as archery, ropes challenge course, canoe, etc.

Job Expectations:
