Director of Financial Operations

DIRECTOR OF FINANCIAL OPERATIONS, Office of the Vice President for Finance (VPF) , to oversee a 50+ person unit within MIT's central finance office that supports the operational and compliance needs of the Institute in the following areas: payroll; processing of purchase requisitions; invoice payments and employee reimbursements; travel expense reporting/reimbursement; oversight of MIT-issued credit cards; support for financial systems; MIT merchant services; and related customer support. Will collaborate with staff to implement policies, processes, and systems to facilitate efficient purchasing and payment activity, ensuring appropriate oversight and full compliance with Institute and sponsor rules; assure continuous improvement in financial operations based on best practices, including emerging developments with respect to artificial intelligence and machine learning; build/maintain strong working relationships with other business units and community stakeholders; and make presentations to MIT senior leadership, explaining complex issues clearly and concisely.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED : bachelor's degree (master's/MBA preferred); seven years' experience successfully leading the administration of complex financial operations and managing a diverse team of financial professionals, preferably in a higher education/research/nonprofit setting; strong strategic thinking skills; open and collaborative leadership style; ability to act as a role model and engaged mentor in providing a positive working and learning environment for staff; commitment to delivering a first-class customer experience; excellent interpersonal and oral and written communication skills; ability to present to broad audiences, including senior leadership; ability to identify problems and engage stakeholders, employ data and creative thinking, and communicate proactively and effectively to develop and secure the endorsement of successful solutions; experience working with hosted and cloud-based financial applications; and advanced-level Excel, Word, and PowerPoint skills. Experience with SAP, Coupa, Concur, and Merchant Services preferred. Job #17047-13
