Financial Analyst

FINANCIAL ANALYST, Office of the Vice President for Finance (VPF)-Budget and Financial Analysis (B&FA) , to help provide stewardship of MIT's financial resources through clear, consistent, and effective communication with senior management including support of the Executive Committee of the MIT Corporation and MIT's academic, research and administrative units. Will help guide the Institute's departments, labs, and centers through the budget process and a variety of other fiscal matters. Responsibilities include developing, monitoring, and reporting on budget performance while supporting management of and improvements to the Institute's budget process; contributing to the preparation of standard management reporting, well-developed analyses, and PowerPoint presentations; supporting the process of reporting on performance metrics; conducting ad-hoc financial analysis; assisting with resolving budget issues; contributing to the development of financial outlooks and forecasts; and handling other duties/projects as assigned.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED : bachelor's degree (master's or MBA preferred) in finance or related field; at least one year of experience preparing financial analysis, narrative analysis, and financial reports using statistical, cost, and financial data; excellent analytical, interpersonal, and written and oral communication skills; experience with data modeling, spreadsheets, and databases; keen attention to detail; ability to keep colleagues and clients informed about VPF procedures/requirements/deadlines; ability to understand how decisions made by senior officers affect the Institute's financial and budget position in a comprehensive way; effective judgment with sensitive matters; self-motivation; teamwork orientation; advanced-level experience with Excel, Word, and PowerPoint; and ability to work with minimal supervision and cross-functionally to solve problems and implement changes. Experience with SAP, Brio Query, SQL, Cognos, and Access; familiarity with corporate finance, financial reporting, budgeting, and accounting; and experience in higher education preferred.
