BUSINESS AND OPERATIONS MANAGER


Position Summary:
The Business and Operations Manager oversees the financial, business, and HR operations of the Press, serves as a member of the Press's senior management team, supervises the business and operations department of the Press, and reports to the Press Director. The University of Wisconsin Press was established in 1936 and is in the division of the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research and Graduate Education at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. The UW Press is a not-for-profit publisher of books and journals. It employs over 20 staff (including academic and university staff, limited term employees, and graduate and undergraduate students). The Press currently publishes approximately 50 books per year and 11 journals, in both print and electronic formats.

Degree and Area of Specialization:
Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business or other related field preferred.

Minimum Years and Type of Relevant Work Experience:
Minimum of one year of business and financial management experience is preferred. Experience in a university setting is preferred.

Experience with accounting and financial analysis and knowledge of applicable policies and procedures. Knowledge of University policies, procedures and practices is preferred.

Must possess strong oral and written communication skills.

Experience and skill with Excel, or other spreadsheet systems, is required. Experience with databases is desirable. Ability to analyze large volumes of data and summarize results.

Experience with human resources and knowledge of applicable laws, policies and procedures.

Ability to think analytically, strategically, and logically while gathering information, solving problems, proposing alternative approaches, and (re)organizing systems in a future-oriented environment.

Prior experience supervising staff is preferred.
