ASSISTANT DEAN FOR ACADEMIC ANALYSIS, PLANNING, AND ASSESSMENT


Position Summary:
The University of Wisconsin-Madison Graduate School provides an instructional and research environment for approximately 9,200 graduate students in over 150 fields at the master's and doctoral levels, overseeing almost 200 programs, certificates, and minors stretching across virtually every school and college in the university. The Graduate School receives nearly 20,000 applications from all fifty states and 140 different countries of the world and confers more than 750 doctoral and 1,800 master's degrees each year. The Graduate School works in concert with other campus units, faculty, and staff to provide guidance and resources that support professional development of graduate students and the representation of diversity in the broadest possible sense.

The Assistant Dean reports directly to the Associate Dean and through him/her to the Dean of the Graduate School. The individual in the position is responsible for managing and overseeing the Office of Academic Analysis, Planning, and Assessment in the Graduate School. That office is responsible for the collection and analysis of Graduate School data for strategic decision- making and reporting, development and assessment of all academic programs at the graduate level, coordination of the activities of the Graduate Faculty Executive Committee (GFEC) and Graduate School Academic Planning Council (GS APC), and liaison functions with other schools and colleges on graduate program issues. The office works closely with the Office of Academic Planning and Institutional Research in the Provost's Office on new program development and program review, with national organizations concerned with graduate student and program policy, and campus data initiatives.

Degree and Area of Specialization:
Bachelor's degree required. Master's degree preferred.

Minimum Years and Type of Relevant Work Experience:
- Five years of experience in higher education required.
- Experience with data analysis and program assessment/evaluation preferred.
- Experience with graduate education administration, accreditation, university governance systems, curricular and program policy and planning and supervision is preferred.
- Proven effective interaction with faculty and staff and a broad range of administrative units is desirable.
