About the Position

The Classroom Support Technician II performs duties under general supervision but works independently to provide operational and technical support for campus classrooms and checkout. This position performs complex installations, modifications, programming and maintenance of audio/video equipment systems.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

-Research, recommend and provide technical advice and expertise to the IMS Department Administration to enhance the services provided to the campus. Provide evaluation and assessment of equipment for purchase, upgrading and maintenance of resources.

-Perform complex modifications and maintenance of audio/video equipment and systems, SP control systems, Vyopta and Crestron control systems. Troubleshoot network, software and computer display issues for audio-visual work and remote location controlling.

-Troubleshoot checkout technology and classroom technology issues, research and identify solutions, make equipment repairs. Work with the team to coordinate maintenance and installation work. Install classroom technology and provide advice on best approaches to equipment repair and installation.

-Develop and provide user documentation and user guides for audio/visual equipment installed in the classrooms. Provide support and training to faculty, staff, and students in the areas of applications, software and audio/visual hardware. Update documentation to educate and assist the end user in understanding and effectively using resources.

-Provide hand-on in-classroom basic and advanced support to faculty teaching in these spaces.

-Test and replace cabling and components, reconfigure and develop solutions for unique faculty needs, and advise the faculty on computer configurations. Develop on-the spot solutions to meet demands and needs.

Minimum Qualifications

Equivalent to three years of experience providing instructional support services for a related unit or discipline, or in producing materials or supplies or repairing equipment in a discipline related to the area to which assigned. A combination of education and experience will be considered.

Preferred Qualifications

-Two years' experience troubleshooting audio/visual equipment
-Two years' experience providing customer service
-Experience working with Windows/Mac computer systems
-Experience maintaining databases

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

-Advanced knowledge of operation of a wide range of video and audio systems, audio monitoring equipment, and related instructional communications technology.
-Ability to identify and diagnose equipment and system problems and develop solutions, and perform equipment repairs.
-Knowledge of a broad range of instructional audio/visual techniques and needs of a campus community.
-Working knowledge of TCP/IP networking protocols.
-Working knowledge of some or all of the following: SmartBoard hardware and software; SP Controls, Crestron and Vyopta control software; LCD Projectors; HDTV monitors; and troubleshooting of Macintosh and Windows Operating Systems.
-Ability to troubleshoot the installed classroom technology and instruct faculty teaching in the technology driven classroom spaces.
-Knowledge of equipment installation, wiring termination, and use of test instruments.
-Knowledge of installation and configuration procedures for AV control systems.
-Working knowledge of PC/MAC hardware, Windows/Mac operating systems and MS Office Suite and other software applications.
-Ability to develop detailed documentation and clear written instructions.
