The San Diego Community College District is accepting applications for a Continuing Education Instructor, Auto Body, 100%, 10-month assignment. The current vacancy exists in Continuing Education and applicants should understand that they may be assigned to any Continuing Education campus. Assignments may include day, evening, and/or weekend hours. (This may be a split assignment between several campuses.)

Major Responsibilities:
Under the direction of a Dean, the incumbent in this position shall teach automotive body and collision courses as assigned in accordance with the catalog descriptions and course outlines. The Continuing Education Instructor must also assist in curriculum development and planning, and participate in professional development activities. The candidate must be able to instruct students in all phases of automotive body and collision, including: Removal and installation of auto body panels and parts; Prepare a vehicle for paint; Detail work; Use of high transfer paint equipment; Use and maintain hand and power auto tools; Follow industry safety practices and procedures; Apply work place ethics and best practices; Diagnosis and trouble shooting techniquesThe Instructor will also be responsible for maintaining the classroom and shop area, and for maintaining student records and other reports as required by District policy or state laws.In addition to teaching, this position will require the skill and ability to evaluate student progress; establish effective working relationship with students of diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds, faculty, staff, and the community; plan and organize programs and activities, including yearly review and development of course goals and objectives; interpret and apply regulations; analyze situations and adopt an effective course of action; and clearly communicate orally and in writing.

Qualifications:
:Bachelors degree; and two years of occupational experience related to the subject of the course taughtORAssociate degree; and six years of occupational experience related to the subject of the course taughtORPossession of a full-time, clear California Designated Subjects Adult Education Teaching Credential authorizing instruction in the subject matterORFor courses in an occupation for which the district offers or has offered apprenticeship instruction, the minimum qualifications for noncredit apprenticeship instructors in that occupation, as specified in title 5 section 53413.

Desired Qualifications:
- Requires initiative, motivation, creativity and ability to understand many areas of expertise. - Ability to assess needs related to practices and procedures and produce training programs and materials to target these needs. - Experience in the automotive body and collision industry. - Leadership skills to effectively direct students while in a training environment. - The ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from management and students. - Ability to communicate professionally with all levels of management. - Excellent written and oral communication skills are necessary to produce and deliver quality training programs. - Ability to function independently in a multi-task environment, as well as part of a team. - Must possess the ability to anticipate and solve practical problems and resolve issues. - Strong planning and organizational skills. - Strong analytical skills. - Proven presentation and facilitation skills. - Experience in facilitating automotive body and collision technical training. - Proven track record of success in service and customer service. - Knowledge of Windows, Power Point, Word and Excel or similar programs required.

Licenses:

Pay Information:
Class 0, Step A Class 6, Step C ($5,503.25 $7,793.19) per month based on the current AFT Continuing Education Faculty Salary Schedule.

Initial salary placement for this Continuing Education Instructor is commensurate with required education and related teaching experience as outlined in section A2.2 of the AFT Faculty Collective Bargaining Agreement and it is non-negotiable. The District offers a comprehensive fringe benefit package including employer paid medical, dental, vision plans, sick leave, and opportunities for professional development. This position is FLSA Exempt and may not accrue overtime. Benefits will be provided under the terms of the AFT-Guild, Local 1931 Faculty Collective Bargaining Agreement. Annual Salaries will be recalculated for service less than a full academic year based on Education Code 87815, any required adjustment will be made with-in the first pay period. Travel reimbursement for interviewees traveling more than 200 miles, one-way, may be paid according to geographic location (see SDCCD Travel Stipend Policy, Rev 7/14/2011). Typically, Continuing Education Instructors earn tenure after 4 years.
