The Position:
The San Diego Community College District is accepting applications for a Plumbing Contract Instructor Noncredit, Continuing Education Instructor, 100%, 10-month assignment. Applicants should understand that they may be assigned to any Continuing Education campus. Assignment may include day, evening, weekend hours, and/or off-campus responsibilities. (This may be a split assignment between several campuses.)

Continuing Education campuses offer adults the opportunity to renew their learning experiences through noncredit vocational, basic skills, life skills and enrichment classes throughout the city of San Diego.

Please note that an employee may be transferred to any site at the option of the Chancellor.

Major Responsibilities:
Under the direction of a Dean, the incumbent in this position shall teach Plumbing courses as assigned in accordance with the catalog descriptions and course outlines. They must also assist in curriculum development and planning, preparing lesson plans and teaching materials, and participate in professional development activities. The candidate must be able to instruct students in multiple phases of Plumbing. The candidate must also be able to direct and assist students in labs with the diagnosis and repair of Plumbing equipment and systems in live situations. The instructor will also be responsible for: Maintaining the classroom, department equipment and shop area, and for maintaining student records and other reports as required by District policy or state laws. Providing re-service orientation for students to assure familiarity with rules and regulations governing Continuing Education training programs. Serve as a member of college-wide standing committees, automotive advisory committee screening committees and other related activities as assigned.

Qualifications:
:A bachelors degree; and two years of occupational experience related to the subject of the course taughtORAn associate degree; and six years of occupational experience related to the subject of the course taughtORPossession of a full-time, clear California Designated Subjects Adult Education Teaching Credential authorizing instruction in the subject matterORFor courses in an occupation for which the district offers or has offered apprenticeship instruction, the minimum qualifications for noncredit apprenticeship instructors in that occupation, as specified in Section 53413.

Desired Qualifications:
Requires initiative, motivation, creativity and ability to understand many areas of expertise. Ability to assess needs related to practices and procedures and produce training programs and materials to target these needs. Leadership skills to effectively direct students while in a training environment. The ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from management and students. Ability to communicate professionally with all levels of management. Excellent written and oral communication skills are necessary to produce and deliver quality training programs. * Ability to function independently in a multi-task environment, as well as part of a team. * Must possess the ability to anticipate and solve practical problems and resolve issues. Strong planning and organizational skills. Strong analytical skills. Proven presentation and facilitation skills. Experience in facilitating technical training. Proven track record of success in service and customer service. Knowledge of Windows, Power Point, Word and Excel or similar programs required.

Licenses:
[If possess] California Community College Instructor Credential in Air Conditioning, Refrigeration and Heating (valid for life)

Pay Information:
Class 0, Step A Class 6, Step C ($5,503.25 $7,793.19) per month based on the current AFT Continuing Education Faculty Salary Schedule.

Initial salary placement for this Continuing Education Instructor is commensurate with required education and related teaching experience as outlined in section A2.2 of the AFT Faculty Collective Bargaining Agreement and it is non-negotiable. The District offers a comprehensive fringe benefit package including employer paid medical, dental, vision plans, sick leave, and opportunities for professional development. This position is FLSA Exempt and may not accrue overtime. Benefits will be provided under the terms of the AFT-Guild, Local 1931 Faculty Collective Bargaining Agreement. Annual Salaries will be recalculated for service less than a full academic year based on Education Code 87815, any required adjustment will be made with-in the first pay period. Travel reimbursement for interviewees traveling more than 200 miles, one-way, may be paid according to geographic location (see SDCCD Travel Stipend Policy, Rev 7/14/2011). Typically, Continuing Education Instructors earn tenure after 4 years.
