Position Summary:
Provides financial oversight, budgeting, and analysis for Academic Affairs, especially the Dean for Faculty Development and Research. Provides budgetary and financial guidance and support for institutional grants in collaboration with the Director of Grants & Sponsored Programs. Provides guidance and makes recommendations to solve special situations such as anticipated overspending problems. Works collaboratively with the Academic Affairs leadership team, Budget Office, Controller's Office, College Advancement, and Grants & Sponsored Programs to ensure appropriate usage of funds.

Essential Functions:
Offer is contingent upon successful completion of a criminal background check.

  • In collaboration with the Dean for Faculty Development and Research, provides financial oversight and coordination of all faculty professional development funds (FPDF, LPDF, UCRF, FRAF, SPSF, Start-up, Ada Howe Kent Fund, International Travel & Conference Fund, Salzburg Global Seminar, Perkins Award, Lamberti SGA Faculty Appreciation Award, Gladstone Award, Mellon faculty awards, Emeriti Funding).
  • In collaboration with the Dean for Faculty Development and Research, provides support for faculty development opportunities such as NEH and Whiting and for College events and programs such as Clifford Symposium, VGN, choir, and dependent care and leave moving.
  • In collaboration with the Director of Grants & Sponsored Programs provides budgetary and financial guidance and support for institutional grants, notably, but not exclusively, those connected with the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. Also provides support for the operation of the Matching Fund.
  • Provides the Provost Office with budgetary guidance and recommendation as new programs and initiatives are being developed.
  • Offers the Academic Administration leadership team guidance in strategies and makes recommendations to solve special situations.
  • Assists faculty in understanding budget policies/procedures.
  • Implements policies and procedures to ensure appropriate and maximum usage of funds.
  • Performs ongoing analysis of budgetary status and budgetary impact of supplemental needs and requests, prepares periodic and ad hoc analyses of budget versus actual for expenses, prepares supporting analysis of variance.
  • Provides support for the Financial Operations Analyst.
  • Must be able to work cooperatively with others and accept direction from supervisor.


General Responsibilities:
  • Performs other duties as assigned to assist the department in obtaining and maintaining its mission.


Qualifcation
Education:

Bachelors degree in business administration, finance, accounting or related field with financial management experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of budgetary and fiscal oversight in an academic setting.
Ability to communicate ideas and policies with senior administrators.
Ability to articulate strategies and implement policies.
Must have logical, analytical and problem-solving skills.
Must have very good interpersonal skills.
Ability to organize and prioritize multiple projects.
Computer experience with databases and word processing, including detailed knowledge and comfort with spreadsheets.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Must handle confidential information with appropriate discretion.

Experience:
Minimum of five or more years of experience in the areas of financial planning, budgeting, forecasting and analysis.
Experience in higher education or the non-profit sector preferred.
