Position Summary:
The Assistant Director of Residential Life for Housing Operations reports to the Associate Dean of Students for Residential Life, and oversees all housing systems and processes. A seasoned student affairs professional and member of the residential life leadership team, the A.D. is capable of comprehensive leadership of housing systems, effective on call crisis response and intervention, and of serving as the Associate Dean of Residential Life's designee whenever necessary and appropriate. The A.D. also serves as a mentor and coach to the residence directors, and works collaboratively to fully enact the mission of the College, and the departmental goal to encourage and facilitate the growth and development of students in our residential community. The A.D.'s essential responsibilities fall in to two broad categories. First, direct management of housing systems and processes, and second, directly engaging with and advising students, in particular, but not limited to, those directly involved in special interest, superblock and social houses. Maintaining a visible presence in the campus community is integral to success in this role.

Residential Life is committed to the total development of the student within an inclusive community through restorative practices, community standards, community development/experiences, intentional conversations, and encourages personal growth and academic success. The position is exempt and work schedules are influenced by student, staff, and community needs. Work outside of traditional hours may include consultative assistance to staff, attendance at special events and functions and, staff training and development participation.

This is a 12 month, full-time, exempt position.

Essential Functions:
Offer is contingent upon successful completion of a criminal background check.

Serve as the Colleges subject matter expert and manager for all housing matters, including housing software systems and their integration with Banner, and all housing related business processes, with minimal direct oversight
Provide overall management of all housing operations, including room draw, special interest and social houses, off campus housing, and regular and ongoing building maintenance needs
Train other dean of students office colleagues in these areas to ensure depth and redundant capacity
Critically examine and refine/revise all housing policies and processes as necessary, identifying core problems and employing initiative, creativity, and advanced level proficiency to craft solutions that balance student, departmental, and cross-departmental/institutional needs, and ensure fairness and efficiency; effectiveness in this area requires a comprehensive understanding of a complex array of interrelated college systems and seasonal cycles, including, but not limited to, Banner and student records, admissions, building maintenance schedules, residential life student staff oversight, etc
Monitor and evaluate housing assignments and occupancy statistics for residence halls, apartments, social houses, special interest houses/super blocks, summer housing, terms abroad, transfer, new, and returning students
Establish, track, and report on key performance indicators the Colleges housing program
As a member of the residential life leadership team, actively contribute to the alignment of the offices operations with the strategic direction of the Student Affairs department and the College
Coordinate Language School and summer employee housing in conjunction with the Language Schools
Coordinate all department communication around residence hall operations
Manage/update the Residential Life website
Monitor and communicate priorities and concerns to facilities services including custodial, maintenance, keys, Touchpad codes, and safety /security concerns.
Manage early arrivals/openings, returning student check-in, break housing processes, and campus closings
Interact with students and parents/families regarding residential concerns
Apply advanced level proficiency in student development theory to establish strong relationships with students based on trust, consistency, fairness and accountability
Supervise summer graduate assistants for MiddCore, and Language Schools
Oversee and advise Inter House Council, special interest houses, and superblocks
Coordinate and oversee selection of special interest houses and SuperBlocks, including applications and presentations, and training
Maintain accurate, timely and complete records around students of concern in the Advocate CARE module
Serve as conduct officer for social and special interest houses, applying student development theory to devise responses to infractions that support our community standards and support student growth and development
Serve as a key member of the Summer Student Affairs team
Supervise Community Assistants/Building managers, including those in interest and social houses

General Responsibilities:
Fulfill all obligations and responsibilities as a designated Campus Security Authority (CSA)
Demonstrate a commitment to ongoing professional growth and development in all areas of responsibility; inclusion and social justice in higher education contexts are explicitly included in this charge
Seek opportunities for professional development on campus through collaboration with other departments and colleagues as time permits.

Qualifcation
Education:

Masters degree in Student Affairs, Higher Education Administration, Counseling, or related field
Experience

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Advanced level knowledge of current theories, processes and practices related to student affairs, student development, orientation and transition, residential education, and leadership development
Previous professional Residential Life experience required
Advanced proficiency in responding to campus-based emergencies and crisis situations
Demonstrated commitment to principles of inclusivity
Ability to foster collaborative and collegial relationships with students, families, faculty and staff
Ability to apply skills and experience to craft solutions to problems which support the office, department, and institutions needs and objectives, with minimal direct oversight
Demonstrated commitment to principles of inclusivity

Experience:
5-7 years of professional housing and residence life experience with increasing responsibilities required

Physical Demands:
Occasional late night and weekend responsibilities required
