Job Summary: This position leads and supports the ongoing Garden/Landscape maintenance requirements for the Naropa University campuses. The focus of this position is to enhance the beauty of the campus grounds using sustainable, regenerative practices. This position helps direct the efforts of the Landscape team, including daily workflow requirements and personnel supervision. Specific duties include organic turf management, mowing, trimming, weeding and garden bed clean-up, trash pick-up, sweeping, leaf blowing, pruning, snow removal management, watering (indoor and outdoor), indoor plant maintenance, planting, and operating equipment as needed. Assists with building maintenance work and event set ups occasionally. As an essential employee, this position will be required to report to work even when normal operations have ceased, including holidays, inclement weather closures, and other crises.

Job Duties:
Landscape Responsibilities:
Assist in hiring, training, and supervising workstudy and temporary employees for landscape and snow crew.
Follow Naropa's Landscape Workflow Schedule which includes, but is not limited to the following:
o Daily trash pick-up on all grounds and debris clean up on walkways and entrances.
o Organic turf management - weekly mowing and line trimming (spot work sometimes more often), using only organic methods, aerating, fertilizing, and manually removing dandelions as needed.
o Daily mulch beds clean-up - weeding, pruning, dead material removal, etc.
o Spreading mulch on all beds annually.
o Watering plants outdoor plants multiple times a week.
o Watering plants indoor weekly/multiple times a week.
o Seasonal bed and pot planting.
o Compost pile turning monthly.
o Branch / limb diversion to western compost monthly.
Maintain bali flags on all campuses, replacing at least annually and as needed.
Complete assigned departmental work requests.
Organize snow removal and communicate scheduling to Snow Crew.
Supervise and work on Snow Crew shoveling and/or plowing snow.
Incorporate energy efficiency, conservation, zero waste, sustainability, and permaculture concepts into work.
Maintain tools, equipment, and supply inventory.
Install fences, benches, patios, retaining walls, and hardscape on occasion.
Operate power equipment.
Perform daily open-up and lock-down procedures when maintenance caretakers are gone.
Perform classroom and special event setup as needed.
Perform record keeping as required by supervisor.
Additional specific departmental duties as assigned.

Caretaker Responsibilities:
Create and maintain a positive team environment and behave professionally with everyone encountered in the course and scope of the job duties.
Respond to Facilities emergencies, including alarms and calls of distress, as necessary.
Act as a resource for the department and community.
Act as part of a team and ensure all other members of the department are supported, including occasionally working with them to help them complete their assigned duties.
Identify and report campus caretaking needs, such as cleanliness, landscaping, and maintenance issues.
Enforce Naropa policies.
Maintain strict confidentiality of information including access codes, incident reports, investigation details, and private departmental knowledge.
Attend all necessary training.

Minimum Qualifications:
Supervisory experience required.
Ability to create and maintain a positive team environment and behave professionally with everyone encountered in the course and scope of the job duties.
Must possess solid communication and organization skills and ability to prioritize.
Strong attention to detail.
In-depth knowledge of organic turf care and treatments.
Experience with the maintenance and repair of irrigation systems.
Experience with bobcat, plow truck, and trailer operation or ability to learn quickly.
Experience with plant care and bed design in urban landscapes.
Experience with the safe operation of power equipment.
Experience with the installation of fencing, benches, patios, retaining walls and hardscape.
Experience with the care and use of hand tools.
The ability to follow direction and meet deadlines.
Basic understanding of energy efficiency, conservation, zero waste, and sustainability.
Intermediate level proficiency with Microsoft Office products as well as the ability to learn new programs.
Ability and willingness to work evenings/weekends as needed.
Valid driver's license.

Physical Requirements:
Willing and able to complete a fitness for duty exam.
Ability to spend all day on your feet.
In a regular workday, employee must continuously stand and walk, and frequently sit.
Employee must lift/carry 50 lbs maximum frequently, and 70 lbs maximum occasionally.
Employee must be able to frequently bend, squat, and reach above shoulder level, and occasionally crawl.
Employee must use RIGHT and LEFT hands for the following repetitive actions: simple grasping, pushing and pulling, and fine manipulation.
Employee is exposed to heat/cold, dust, dampness, height, moving machinery.
