Communications Specialist II (Digital Designer), University Development and Alu

PAY GRADE: 30E

CONTEXT OF THE JOB:

The efforts of the Office of Development and Alumni Relations (DAR) seek to engage thousands of individuals to shape our future and raise funds for several institutional priorities including The Biden Institute, Graduate Education, Athletics Facilities, and Innovation & Entrepreneurship.

The Communications Specialist II (Digital Designer) has oversight and responsibility for designing and producing creative communications across all digital platforms for both internal and external audiences to enhance development and alumni relations strategies with a primary goal of increasing donor giving at the University of Delaware.

These communications will be delivered to an audience of over 200,000 constituents including donors, alumni, friends and parents. The incumbent is significantly responsible for the development of new and improved digital communication efforts for the entire University to further its fundraising goals.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Designs and oversees the implementation of original graphic messaging across all digital channels designed to increase donor giving. Responsible for initiating strategies and creative concepts; publishes and maintains useful and compelling digital content for DAR's various websites, social media channels, e-newsletters, multimedia productions (e.g., videos, podcasts), and emails.
  • Executes the redesign of the DAR website using the Adobe Experience Manager platform. Creates content, executes updates to all layers within the site, and oversees administrative privileges to ensure compliance with policies, procedures and practices. Responsible for creating and maintaining the site design and developing and enhancing new web pages and features.
  • Manages design projects from concept to completion for both print and digital projects for internal DAR clients including Alumni Engagement, Development, Donor Relations, Gift Planning and more.
  • Serves as primary liaison with Office of Communications and Marketing for DAR digital efforts, including production of digital assets and video content.
  • Researches and establishes emerging trends, tools, and platforms across the entire digital landscape, and educates and inspires DAR constituents on all things digital design.
  • Manages annual student intern including project assignment, design feedback and guidance and overall managerial responsibilities.
  • Assists with the events team with on-site photography process, presentations and slideshows as well as audio/video production to highlight and showcase the impact of the campaign.
  • Attends various department or university wide meetings on behalf of DAR Communications.
  • Creates and maintains production schedules, meets deadlines, and reviews proofs. Conducts and interprets periodic audience surveys.


QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree or comparable experience in interactive design, communications marketing or related field with at least three years of digital communications related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Writing, producing and editing experience as well as effective web authoring skills and familiarity with a wide range of web 2.0 applications.
  • Well-versed in utilizing content management systems (preferably Adobe Experience Manager and WordPress);
  • Familiarity with social media platforms, iMovie, Photoshop, Final Cut, and HTML preferred. Working experience with both Windows and Mac computer systems and proficiency in MS Office software.
  • Ability to analyze and adjust site content and functionality based on analytics and possibly prepare quarterly reports to keep department aware of performance of digital assets.
  • Experience working with nonprofit communications, especially advancement communications preferred.
  • Experience in optimizing digital content for search optimization
  • Experience developing and executing digital content strategies to align with audience behaviors, goals and key messages to drive engagement.
  • Must demonstrate the highest level of attention to detail and the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously in order to complete rapid turn-around of communications pieces and successfully meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work effectively with a range of creative colleagues, including communications and marketing professionals, photographers, art directors, videographers and graphic designers.


SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Works occasional evenings and weekends for donor and special events.
