GRANTS ADMINISTRATOR, PRE-AWARD


Position Summary:
This position works within the School of Medicine and Public Health-Department of Radiology. It is our departmental mission to foster and support innovative research.

We are actively engaged in research in a number of areas. Various research projects are supported by federal and private grants, and there is extensive collaboration with multiple industrial partners. We rank among the top 1/3 of radiology departments in grant funding.
The Department of Radiology research enterprise is located in the Wisconsin Institutes for Medical Research (WIMR). WIMR is designed to allow researchers to work with scientists from other disciplines, speeding the transfer of science to the people who will benefit from it.

This position will work closely with the Principal Investigators (PI) in the Department of Radiology, with collaboration in the Departments of Medical Physics and Biomedical Engineering and will work closely with and provide back up support for the post-award grants administrator position in Radiology. This position will be responsible for research grants administration duties for research projects initiated within Radiology, including new proposal submissions; budget forecasts, financial monitoring and negotiation of multiple contracts; semi-annual and annual reporting of all submitted and awarded grants and contracts; and subcontracts and academic support services agreements with consultants.

Degree and Area of Specialization:
Bachelor's degree required; Business, Management, or Finance background preferred.

Minimum Years and Type of Relevant Work Experience:
Minimum of two or more years of substantial involvement in research and sponsored programs administration working with all facets of pre- and/or post- award grant administration, including electronic grant submissions and reporting, and preferably in the UW System. This position will primarily be responsible for the pre-award grants process. Knowledge of the UW WISPER, Cayuse and WISDM programs a plus.

A minimum of seven years experience required for appointment at the senior level.

A criminal and/or caregiver background check will be conducted.

Additional Information:
The successful candidate will demonstrate a history of initiative, flexibility and personal accountability; a successful record of project administration ability to plan for and meet strict deadlines while being able to incorporate new challenges; knowledge of and experience with grant application and award processes; negotiation skills, and understanding of state and university administrative policies. This position requires a significant degree of organization, and interaction with research faculty, staff, students, campus administrative departments, Deans, grantee organizations, and both federal and non-federal research sponsors. Requires excellent writing skills, strong interpersonal skills, a propensity for teamwork, as well as organizational, and communication skills. Experience editing, writing, and reviewing technical and scientific papers and research contracts is desirable.
