Reporting Relationships

Reports to:
Supervision is received from the Assistant Director of Operations or group leader.
Supervision Exercised: Supervision may be exercised over part-time staff or student workers.

Job Summary
Under the supervision of the assigned supervisor, perform skilled, semi-skilled, or unskilled grounds maintenance work and other related work as requested

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following.  Related duties may be assigned.
1.Perform various manual labor tasks including loading, unloading, lifting, and moving materials.
2.Operate grounds maintenance equipment.
3.Assist in the maintenance and planting of lawn areas, flower beds, weeding and tree trimming.
4.Paint, stain and finish various campus surfaces.
5.Assist with snow removal.
6.Have knowledge of commonly used concepts, policies, procedures, and safety measures.
7.Perform minor repairs and maintenance on lawn and garden equipment.
8.Apply pesticides and fertilizer.
9.Pour and finish cement.
10.Maintain athletic fields.
11.Regular attendance is expected.
12.Using tact and courtesy, the ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with persons contacted in the course of work.

Physical Abilities
1.Visual ability to read handwritten or typed documents, instructions, the display screen of various equipment and machines, and blue prints and schematics.
2. Able to conduct verbal conversation.
3. Able to hear normal range verbal conversation (approximately 60 decibels).
4.Able to sit, stand, stoop, kneel, bend, and walk.
5.Able to climb slopes, stairs steps ladders.
6.Able to push and/or pull a variety of tools, equipment and objects weighing up to 40 pounds. Able to lift up to 40 pounds frequently, and 60 pounds occasionally.
7.Able to sustain strenuous manual labor for 8 hours, with 3 breaks.
8.Able to exhibit full range of motion for shoulder external rotation an internal rotation. Able to exhibit full range of motion for shoulder abduction and adduction. Able to exhibit full range of motion for elbow flexion and extension. Able to exhibit full range of motion for shoulder extension and flexion. Able to exhibit full range of motion for back lateral flexion. Able to exhibit full range of motion for hip flexion and extension. Able to exhibit full range of motion for knee flexion.
9.Able to use respirators, for personal protection, up to: 2 hours per day, strenuous physical effort, 3 hours per day, moderate physical effort, 6 hours per day, light physical effort.
10. Able to work at various elevated heights in ladders, scaffolding, rigging and roofs in a safe and effective manner. Able to work in restricted spaces in a safe and effective manner.
11. Able to work with a variety of chemical agents in a safe and effective manner without allergic reaction.
12. Able to demonstrate manual dexterity necessary to perform fine maintenance procedures and operate both manual and power hand tools in a safe and effective manner.
13.Able to operate a variety of powered industrial vehicle equipment, and tools associated with building repair, maintenance, preventative maintenance and construction in a safe and effective manner.
14.Able to operate a variety of maintenance motor vehicles in a safe and effective manner.

Minimum Qualifications
Hold and maintain a valid Illinois Motor Vehicle Operator’s License, proper insurance, and a driving record satisfactory to the college required. Class CDL is desirable. Pass a required physical examination and background check required. At least two years’ experience in general maintenance work desired. Completion of 12th grade or equivalent desired. General knowledge of one or more of the building trades or apprenticeship in one or more of the building trades desired. Ability to follow written and oral instructions desired.
