Program Director, Campus Internships

Program Director of On Campus Internships

The Division of Experience-Based Learning and Career Education (ELCE) offers in cooperation with two other divisions, unique cooperative education (co-op) programs to UC students. UC's groundbreaking Experiential Learning Programs have evolved over the last 100+ years into an internationally recognized benchmark. Today the University generates in excess of 6,000 student co-op and internship engagements annually.

As part of the President Pinto's Next Lives Here initiative, Co-op 2.0 will build on UC's signature co-op program and will redefine it in order to prepare students for work in the 21st century. One specific strategy will involve expanding co-op within the university through on campus, paid work experiences that will include professional preparation, mentoring, reflection and assessment. The Program Director of On Campus Internships will be charged with developing, overseeing and maintaining the progress of the On Campus Internships Co-op 2.0 initiative and facilitating partnerships across campus to create meaningful, paid, and transcribed experiences for students.

Description of Duties
  • Create sustainable processes and systems to support and increase quality student co-ops/internships on campus
  • Collaborate with departments and units on campus to develop competitive, paid on campus internships
  • Develop training and implementation systems for campus partners to provide rich learning opportunities and meaningful project-based work
  • Serve as a liason for campus partners regarding logistics, student challenges, assessment of needs and opportunities for growth
  • Develop scalable criteria and policies for creating high-quality on-campus internships
  • Research and benchmark on-campus internships at other instituions and implement best practices
  • Develop and evaluate on-campus internship evaluation tool; provide feedback to on-campus partners to enhance student employment positions
  • Collaborate with Multi-disciplinary team faculty regarding INT reflection courses
  • Collaborate with UC HR to streamline student hiring, training and onboarding processes
  • Collaborate with central career education staff to develop and execute a strategy to market on-campus internships to students, staff and faculty
  • Collaborate with ELCE administration to develop streamlined processes for registering students for appropriate internship courses
  • Work with the Undergraduate Affairs Business Director to track funding balances and expenses of approved programs
  • Collaborate with Institutional Research in the Office of the Provost on revenue and expenses directly impacting Performance Based Budgeting as a result of campus partnerships
  • Coordinate with Sponsored Research Services to ensure appropriate documents are funneled through the COEUS system on behalf of Business Partner Agreements
  • Coordinate with the UC Foundation to appropriately account for funding that comes in as donations for projects
  • Evaluate incentives and grant opportunities for college partners and students participating in on-campus internships


Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree with three (3) year of related experience; -OR- Associates degree with five (5) years of related Experience; - OR-seven (7) years of related experience.
  • Experience must be in program development, business administration.
  • Experience must include at least one (1) year of supervision.


Preferred Skills & Qualifications:
  • Experience developing new programs and creating sustainable and scalable systems and processes
  • Familiarity with career education and professional development related curricular initiatives and programs
  • Familiarly with literature about on campus employment and/or traditional campus employers
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to learn and utilize multiple databases, IT systems
  • Masters preferred
