SCHEDULE: ROTATING 10 HOUR DAYS

DAYS OFF: ROTATING, MUST WORK HOLIDAYS AND WEEKEND

SHIFT: 2 ND SHIFT

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Demonstrates leadership qualities in work groups of all sizes, exercises independent judgment and initiative, and is active in continuous improvement of all aspects of work applied to total heating plant. Possesses thorough knowledge of the methods and principles of water-tube boilers; knowledge of boiler management and burner management systems, fuel and air ratio mix methods, and stack analysis. Demonstrates ability to work with boilers manufactured by Combustion Engineer, English, Keeler, Titusville, and other major manufacturers. Understands the operation of steam pressure reducing equipment, air-loaded and self-contained, manufactured by Leslie, Spence, and others. Knowledgeable in operation and maintenance methods for heating system auxiliaries and steam specialties; basic computer knowledge and skills required; requires interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate effectively and interact with people of all ages and diverse backgrounds. Requires leadership ability in order to plan, schedule, direct, and monitor work during central plant shutdowns and in emergency situations. Must be capable of working independently and prioritizing tasks in order to meet the needs of the University of Delaware and its customers.

REQUIRED MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: Requires a high school diploma, GED, or equivalent. Minimum of four years' experience in the maintenance, operation, and repair of high pressure steam boilers ( 70,000lbs/hr), air compressors, pumps, and fans etc. in the maintenance and repair of commercial and industrial boiler systems and all related equipment throughout the campus. Knowledge of internal and external boilers and related equipment required; knowledge of water tube boilers, instrumentation, high pressure and industrialized boilers; must have knowledge and piping skills in order to remove and repair piping lines, valves, fittings related to piping.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Must possess a valid Third Class Fireman's Stationary Engineers License issued by a local jurisdiction that sanctions the examination requirements of the National Institute for the Uniform Licensing of Power Engineers, or a valid license from the City of Wilmington, Delaware or alternative license as evaluated and administered by applicable state or local agencies. The operator must maintain a valid license while employed in this classification. Non-allergic to solvents, gases, combustion, fuel, oil, boiler water treatment, and various chemicals commonly associated with the trade in order to assess, repair and/or replace equipment. Must possess a valid motor vehicle operator's license in order to drive University of Delaware vehicles.

Facilities Management may or may not offer traineeships for any vacant positions in Local 3472 under the terms of Article X of the collective bargaining agreement.
