Financial Aid Assistant

Financial Aid Assistant

Under the general direction and reporting to the Sr. Assistant Director of Student Financial Services, the Financial Aid Assistant II will assist in the processing of financial aid records:

  • Interacts with students and/or families to follow up on missing or deficient information; relays and discusses status of application,
  • Provide support to the CSC via Student Financial Services general ACD line daily. On average handle 575 escalated calls per month. Respond to all inquiries in a timely manner and identify processing areas that need to be clarified in financial aid material and communications.
  • Process federal FAFSA corrections weekly in accordance with federal regulations.
  • Review and submit citizenship and non-citizenship documents to the Department of Homeland Security in accordance with federal regulations and mark the progress of these documents in Process submitted documentation to the Department of Homeland Security through the SAVE system to ensure eligible students receive the aid to which they are entitled.
  • Review FAFSA's with federal reject flags and outreach to students and request documentation needed to resolve issues and utilize Federal Selective Service site to resolve student selective service issues.
  • Review the Banner suspense report weekly to identify and resolve duplicate and unmatched FAFSA records in accordance with federal regulation.
  • Bimonthly outreach to students missing social security numbers (ssn) or who reported incorrect ssn and provide steps they need to take to resolve their issue thereby enabling their FAFSA to be processed.
  • Manage unofficial FAFSA Identify error preventing FAFSA from being processed, outreach to students informing them of the steps they need to take to resolve their student specific issue. Process FAFSA correction when appropriate.
  • Reviews, and assesses FAFSA's and verification documents in accordance with federal guidelines.
  • Keeps the Assistant Director and the Sr. Associate Director abreast of any issues with document management, ISIR processing or Pell corrections that could impact the timely processing of financial aid applications and or funds.
  • Responsible for delivering seamless, effective customer service with a diverse population of students, staff, faculty, alumni and outside agencies.
