Manager, Johnson Investment Counsel Lab - Lindner College of Business

The Lindner College of Business (LCB) is at an exciting inflection point on the path to preeminence. The College has an established national reputation for excellence in several academic areas across its undergraduate, graduate, and online programs. A combination of research and teaching accomplishment distinguishes the College as a leader. In 2019, LCB will move into a state-of-the-art new building that represents a tremendous opportunity for the College to bring innovative approaches to business education and further elevate the role of the College at UC, in the City of Cincinnati, and on the national landscape.

Essential Function:

Under general supervision from the Lindner College of Business Finance Department Head, the Lab Manager will oversee the administration and direction of a new, multifaceted technology center. The Finance Department at the Carl H. Lindner College of Business seeks candidates to serve as the Manager (Associate Director, Academic) for the new Johnson Investment Counsel (JIC) Investments Lab. This lab is an important feature in our new building, which will open in the Fall 2019 semester. We are seeking an entrepreneurial candidate that will take ownership of the Lab and develop its outreach jointly with the vision of the Finance department and the College. This position will report to the Director of the Johnson Investment Institute and has a dotted line reporting relationship to the LCB Director of IT.

Primary duties include but are not limited to:
  • Manage day to day operations of the Lab, including schedules and support staff
  • Collaborate with faculty to incorporate Lab resources into academic course curriculum to enhance student experience and build business/community partnerships.
  • Develop Lab training and support resources for students and faculty; Train student assistants to support Lab clients; Train MS and PhD students in data management and retrieval
  • Assist faculty with data retrieval
  • Recommend software licenses and upgrades to support innovative learning
  • Assist with the maintenance of hardware and technology resources
  • Provide continuing education to faculty, students, and external stakeholders to assist and resolve complex questionsandissues; represent the university internally and externally
  • Implement internal policies, procedures, controls, and manage processes to advancedepartmental goals
  • Prepare reports, disseminate/interpret information, provide advice,deliver presentations, initiate contractual agreements, and ensure that all programs and services comply with university accessibility requirements
  • Support conferences and seminars which may include serving on various departmental committees and representing the department at various state and national associations
  • Other duties as assigned

    There may be an opportunity for a joint adjunct instructor appointment to teach specialty courses within the Finance program; however, the primary responsibility of the Manager is the efficient management of the Lab.

    Minimum Qualifications:
  • BS/BBA in Finance or related field
  • 2 years of intensive experience with the Bloomberg Professional Service
  • 5 years of work experience in financial services


Preferred Qualifications:
  • PhD in Finance or a related field; Master's degree in Finance or a related field and working toward the CFA; Undergraduate degree and a CFA charterholder
  • Expertise with various professional financial resources such as FactSet and/or Capital IQ
  • Technical expertise to assist our Information Technology staff with managing the hardware and software in the facility
  • Ability to work with faculty to integrate lab resources into their courses. This integration might include teaching individual class sessions that are held in the Lab.
