Degree and area of specialization:
BS Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field is required. MS Degree is preferred.

Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:
Well-qualified applicants will have the following required experience/qualifications:
- Experience must include the development of low-level analog and digital designs, component selection, electronic packaging, human interfaces, electrical safety assurance, and environmental testing.
- Experience designing power systems that comply with the National Electrical Code for grounding, conductor sizing, and circuit protection.
-Experience with Autocad, solidworks-electrical, and electrical panel layout per UL standards is expected.

Well-qualified applicants will also have the following preferred experience/qualifications:
- Minimum of three years direct experience supporting complex projects.
- Lead engineer experience in the design, construction, and testing of custom electronic equipment from initial concept to final installation.
- Experience working with new and existing clients to understand their requirements, present various design options, develop budgets and schedules, and report progress.
- Experience in the design and implementation of electronic systems operated at extremely cold temperatures.
- Experience with the selection and deployment of industrial-grade sensors to measure temperature, level, flow, pressure, force, and motion.
- Experience supporting complex projects in a research and development environment.
- Experience with space-flight, cryogenic, and/or Antarctic operating environments.

Position Summary:
The Physical Sciences Laboratory (PSL) is a research and development laboratory that provides a range of services including consulting, design, fabrication, and calibration in scientific instrumentation. At our facility south of Madison, which includes a 25,000 square foot machine and electronics shop, PSL offers a highly trained staff in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Physics to address the unique needs of projects of every scale and complexity.

The Electrical Engineer position will provide the Electrical Engineering group with expertise and advice on strategy, design, and plans for all PSL projects. The position will communicate and collaborate with researchers, scientists, and faculty from the University of Wisconsin-Madison campus as well as private industry and international collaborators.
