Degree and area of specialization:
Master's degree required. Advanced degree such as a juris doctorate, PhD, or other advanced terminal degree preferred.

Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:
- 5 years of progressively responsible experience in a compliance-related field or as a professional compliance officer.
- Demonstrated ability to facilitate and lead process-improvement efforts to address enterprise-wide compliance.
- Demonstrated ability to supervise compliance programs and staff in an effective and sustainable manner.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and produce work products appropriate for executive purposes.
- Demonstrated ability to work successfully within a highly complex, decentralized and diverse compliance environment.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate with and provide guidance to groups with diverse viewpoints, commitments, experiences, and responsibilities toward the attainment of common goals.
- Excellent ability to communicate technical and complex concepts clearly and persuasively in writing, meetings, presentations, and training sessions.
- Excellent attention to detail; superior analytical and policy interpretation skills.

Additional preferred qualifications include:
- 5+ years of progressively responsible experience working within an academic institution, large company or government agency on compliance-related matters such as federal research, environment, health and safety, athletics, and/or employment regulations as well as other regulations that apply in higher education.
- Direct experience with ADA, Title IX, Title VI, Title VII and/or HIPAA compliance.
- Professional leadership experience.

Position Summary:
This position directs the Office of Compliance at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. The Office of Compliance provides program oversight for the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA Privacy), Title IX of the Education Amendments, Wisconsin Public Records Law, and for providing fair and impartial employment and education discrimination complaint investigations (Title VI of the Civil Rights Act). The Office collaborates with campus partners to mitigate compliance risk and promote ethical conduct throughout the university community.

This position reports to the Vice Chancellor for Legal Affairs.
