Position Summary:
The Office of Strategic Consulting is a dynamic internal consulting office that serves the UW-Madison community by working with administrative and academic units to enhance organizational effectiveness, building organizational change and leadership capacity across the University, and providing project portfolio management for enterprise-wide, high-impact projects. The office includes a director (to whom this position reports), a portfolio manager (who oversees the project management team), a communications officer, a consulting project/fiscal coordinator, an operations officer, and a team of 12 consultants.

Our consulting services are robust, with over 100 engagements annually serving clients across the university. Our work primarily focuses on four core service areas: strategic planning, process improvement, organizational design, and enhancing department climate and culture. The associate director will have primary responsibility for overseeing the delivery of consulting services, including: day-to-day supervision of consultants (who are largely independent and self-directed, but with whom regular consultation is critical), client relationship management, assignment of incoming engagements to appropriate consultant(s), review and approval of statements of work and other client-facing documentation, and development and application of a robust assessment program for our consulting services. It is expected that (time permitting) the associate director will work on consulting projects in one or more of the core service areas in order to ensure that his or her skills remain current.

Our strategic plan aims to maximize our impact on campus by enhancing our consulting services and building organizational capacity; this position is expected to contribute significantly to both of these strategic initiatives, with emphasis on maximizing our impact in consulting.

The associate director will serve as the director in the director's absence.
