Application Support Specialist

APPLICATION SUPPORT SPECIALIST, Student Financial Services (SFS)/Admissions Office , to provide direct application, system, and technical support for SFS and the Admissions Office. Will assist with SFS support requests--incidents, issues, tickets, and data remediation--to ensure flawless and quality delivery of services to staff and customers. Admissions Office duties include desktop support, conducting SQL queries on the Admissions database, ticket management, and monitoring/managing dataflows between Admissions and other MIT systems. Responsibilities include supporting all SFS client-server applications in support of MIT's financial aid programs and student account processing; maintaining working knowledge of key SFS systems and production jobs in order to provide backup; serving on department-wide IT initiatives/projects; providing SQL support and conducting queries; providing desktop support, including routine problem solving, equipment support, and internet and telecom services; and participating in the new Admissions application development project.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED : bachelor's degree in related field; at least five years' experience supporting hybrid Window and Macintosh environments; advanced-level knowledge of IT standards/policies; understanding of basic software development, database management/design, and network and server concepts in order to interface effectively with technology staff; knowledge of web-based relational application software systems and file transfer protocols, system/database access, and batch scheduling; ability to work independently and as a team member; analytical and diagnostic skills for dealing with issues that are not readily defined; excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills; familiarity with and knowledge of PowerFaids, Banner Account Receivable, and Evisions software; and ability to be accountable for own knowledge acquisition. Advanced-level knowledge of spreadsheets, database software, queries (SQL) and report writing tools (e.g., Access) preferred. Financial aid and/or student accounts experience a plus. Job #16796-7
