Position Summary:
The Mead Witter School of Music at the University of Wisconsin-Madison invites applications for a Director of Athletic Bands as a 9-month faculty associate with a month of summer salary guaranteed. Candidates should have a record of teaching and performance excellence in band programs at the collegiate level including experience with designing, writing and rehearsing halftime shows. Candidates will be expected to contribute vigorously to the educational and outreach missions of the University and School; to recruit and teach a diverse body of students; and to carry out leadership and service within the School, College, and University. The University and School seek a highly motivated, engaged, and creative performer who will join colleagues at the Mead Witter School of Music who value collaboration, innovation, equity, diversity, and inclusion in their shared work of preparing student musicians for a variety of careers. Candidates must exhibit excellent communication, organizational, management and interpersonal skills, demonstrate a commitment to musical artistry and the ability to work as a member of a team.

This is a probationary academic staff appointment with a probationary period of up to seven years (or earlier if determined by the initial contract agreement or by consensus of the Executive Committee). Upon completion of successful probationary period the appointment may become indefinite.

The successful candidate will be reviewed on an annual basis by a Review Committee established within the MWSoM; contract extensions will be granted annually by vote of the School's Executive Committee. Yearly review criteria will be based on 1. successful oversight of the Athletic Band program including organization, recruitment, creativity in performance, drills and music arranging, and level of professionalism among the students; 2. Quality of teaching within the MWSoM; 3. Leadership and service to the School, College and University in a manner consistent with School and College values and reflecting the Wisconsin Idea.

Additional Information:
The Mead Witter School of Music, located within the College of Letters & Science, serves over 300 majors at the undergraduate and graduate levels offering the B.A., B.S., B.M., M.A., M.M., D.M.A. and Ph.D. degrees and serves hundreds of non-majors through multiple ensembles and course offerings. Along with the UW-Madison at large, the School of Music is committed to creating a diverse, collegial and inclusive educational, scholarly and performance community of faculty, staff, and students and to embody through its teaching and research the aims of the Wisconsin Idea. In April 2019, the Hamel Music Center, a state-of-the-art facility designed as a gateway for arts on campus, will open its doors to the campus and general public. This appointment will be 9 months, full-time with a guaranteed month of summer salary; salary and prefix is commensurate with experience.
