Assoc. Dean of Students for Diversity and Equity

POSITION SUMMARY: Since its founding, UNO has been committed to diversity and inclusion. The Associate Dean of Students for Diversity and Equity will provide leadership within Student Affairs to support an inclusive institutional climate that fosters inclusive excellence, creates opportunities for student learning, and supports diversity and equity. As the Deputy Title IX Coordinator, the Associate Dean will work closely with the Associate Vice President for Student Affairs/ Dean of Students who serves as the Title IX Coordinator to investigate and respond to complaints of gender-based discrimination and develop educational programming related to Title IX issues.

This is a new position that will provide opportunities to develop new programs and enhance existing services to create a more inclusive and equitable campus climate.

RESPONSIBILITIES:  

Administrative and Leadership Responsibilities 

Provides administrative leadership over Student Affairs in the absence of the Associate Vice President for Student Affairs/Dean of Students.

Supervises the Director of Accountability and Disability Services and Directors of TRIO programs. Provides leadership for the Office of Diversity Affairs.

Collaborates closely with other Student Affairs staff members to support an inclusive institutional climate that fosters inclusive excellence, creates opportunities for student learning, and supports diversity and equity.

Collaborates as a member of the Office of Student Affairs to assist with the coordinated response to other student concerns, including but not limited to behavioral, wellness, academic, and personal concerns.

Oversees the process for annually reviewing, revising, and distributing the Student Handbook. Provide support for the Director of Accountability and Disability in annually reviewing and revising the Student Code of Conduct.

Serves in an on-call duty rotation within the Office of Student Affairs in the event of a campus emergency involving students.

Title IX Responsibilities 

Serves as the University’s Title IX Deputy Coordinator for matters involving gender-based misconduct or discrimination impacting any UNO student. Oversees the process for responding to formal and informal notifications of gender-based misconduct including sexual violence, sexual harassment, stalking, dating violence, sexual exploitation, and sex/gender discrimination and effectively managing cases.

Investigates Title IX complaints involving students.

Supports the Office of Accountability and Disability Services in the adjudication of Title IX cases by supporting designated investigators and appellate officers.

Regularly maintains updates and changes to Title IX policies and procedures as they relate to federal and state laws pertaining to unlawful harassment and discrimination.

Contributes to and coordinates the development of training and education on Title IX policies and procedures for students, staff, and faculty.

Performs other duties as required. 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Master’s degree in higher education administration, student personnel, or related field. 
  • Minimum of three (3) years of progressively more responsible experience in Student Affairs.
  • Minimum of two years of experience supervising professional staff.
  • Experience responding to students in crisis and experience investigating student misconduct.
  • Experience investigating and responding to Title IX complaints. 
  • Experience developing and/or delivering training on Title IX issues on a university or college campus.
  • Strong understanding of legislation involving higher education (FERPA, Clery, Title IX, etc).
  • Demonstrated commitment to cultural competency and ability to serve the needs of diverse students, especially those holding historically marginalized or underrepresented identities.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends, as necessary.

 

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

·       ​Ph.D. or terminal degree in a related field.

·       Five (5) years of progressively more responsible experience in student affairs.

·       3-5 years of experience supervising professional staff.

·       Experience working with TRIO programs or other access programs.

 

SALARY: Commensurate with experience
