Position Summary and ResponsibilitiesReporting to the Associate Vice President for Development Communications, this position provides operational, administrative and creative services support. A member of the Development Communications, Donor Relations and Web Services team, s/he provides support for creative work such as writing, designing, and production as needed, including working on appeals, direct mail pieces, donor reports, acknowledgements, solicitations, web, imagery and video as required. Collaborates with Marketing and Communications staff to develop creative content and marketing concepts within strategic, thematic, and branding frameworks.

  • Build and foster collaborative relationships with other content developers and department managers to ensure seamless integration of content across channels within strategic, thematic, and branding frameworks.
  • Participate in strategic communication and branding development meetings.
  • Develops and coordinates detailed production schedules for all projects and campaigns. Monitors and tracks projects to ensure their accurate and timely completion. Responsible for maintaining the "master view" of all projects at any point in time.
  • This person is seen as a go-to as it relates to projects in Development Communications if the AVP is unavailable ? has a deep understanding of the culture at Vassar, the goals of the programs, details relating to production, and the status of the department's efforts.
  • Serves as a point of contact for outside vendors (eg., freelancers, printers, mail houses, etc.)
  • Works with external print companies and internal and external designers tied to material production and distribution.
  • Prepares print specifications for print bids and quotes. Seeks cost-effective bids, secures estimates, and assigns print vendors to projects.
  • Oversees the production process from assessment of needs to delivered product and ensures final design files have been received.
  • Craft and proof emails and other written communications.
  • Develop and produce outreach materials and collateral for use in solicitation, cultivation, outreach, and stewardship activities.
  • Organize and help execute comprehensive crowdfunding campaigns.


  • Qualifications
    The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree in communications or a related field from an accredited college or university with a minimum of two-years related experience. Strong computer skills are required including proficiency with Microsoft Word, Publisher, Microsoft Excel, e-mail and internet browsers; proficiency and prior experience with Publisher, InDesign or Photoshop a plus. Comfortable and conversant with digital and social media, with an understanding of their use in philanthropic marketing, stewardship, and communications. Experience shooting and editing video also a plus. Experience in higher education a plus. Excellent written and verbal communication skills and telephone manner are essential. Interest in marketing, branding, video, design and project management a plus. Requires the ability to interact effectively with a diverse community of internal and external constituents. Successful applicants will be a team-player; have a professional, problem-solving demeanor; good judgment and discretion; demonstrated ability to work independently; strong organizational skills are vital, with the ability to effectively manage deadlines and multiple, competing priorities essential. A great sense of humor and creative spirit preferred.
