Evening Circulation Assistant

Job Summary:
This position is primarily responsible for managing the public service functions of the Taggart Law Library in the evenings. Several of the chief tasks include overseeing library functions, coordinating circulation desk operations, preparing Inter-Library loan requests, updating database information, assisting faculty and students, processing College of Law archival materials, performing collection maintenance activities, and supervising student workers. Serve as sole staff member on duty at night.

Scope:
Support the Taggart Law Library by supervising the circulation desk and maintaining the operation and security of the library in the evening. This position will work Monday - Friday while classes are in session on this schedule: 2:30 PM until 11:00 PM. Hours will change during breaks and summer term.

Principal Responsibilities
-Work Monday - Friday evenings while classes are in session and serve as sole staff member on duty after 7:30 PM.
-Oversee the operations of the library through responding to inquiries regarding library services and policies, performing basic problem solving, and assisting library users including faculty, students, alumni, and community users
- Coordinate circulation desk operations such as checking books in and out, shelving, and maintaining library collections and equipment.
-Provide friendly and helpful service to library users
- Use good judgment to help solve a wide range of problems for library users. Will routinely be the only ONU employee on duty in the entire law college building.
-In the absence of a librarian in the evenings and on weekends, answer more complex questions regarding use of library resources; refer questions requiring instruction and/or more in-depth research assistance to librarians
-Prepare outgoing interlibrary loan and OhioLINK materials, including packaging and shipping physical materials; receive incoming interlibrary loan and OhioLINK materials and prepare and send notifications to patrons
-Use the Sierra Integrated Library System to identify and update bibliographic records for the reserve collection, create patron records and course reserve records, note missing materials, remove fines, search for materials, and conduct related library operations
- Assist librarians by pulling books and other needed materials for instructional sessions, workshops, research projects, and other operations
- Create displays for special events and for general interest topics for law school community. Create signage for special events.
- Train and supervise student workers.
- Work independently during late evening hours during the week, with assistance from student workers.
-Assist with special project work, including helping process law school archival materials
-In conjunction with the Technical Services Librarian, appraise, arrange, describe, preserve, display, and facilitate use of College of Law archival material, which includes documents, photographs, audiovisual material, and ephemera in need of bibliographic description, rehousing, research aids, and narratives to support research, exhibits, and other uses
-Assist with special project work in response to library and College of Law needs
-Provide friendly and helpful service to library users
- Other duties as assigned, to be determined by operational needs of the library

Minimum Qualifications:
- Associate's Degree or two year college equivalent
-Customer service experience
- Ability to work Monday - Friday from 2:30 PM until 11:00 PM during the academic year, with other hours to be assigned during breaks, holiday, and summer sessions
- Ability to work a flexible schedule based on library operational needs. Required work hours will change at designated times during breaks and summer term. Individuals who cannot work a flexible schedule cannot be successful in this position, as required work hours will change at designated times during breaks and summer session.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree
- Previous experience working in a library, archive, museum, or related cultural institution
- Prior experience working independently as sole staff member on duty
-Prior experience working night/weekend shifts or shifts that change based on operational needs
