DEPUTY CHIEF OF POLICE, MIT Police , to be responsible for the leadership, administration, and strategic direction of the MIT Police, in partnership with the chief of police and other public safety managers. Will serve as the second in command, with responsibility for leading strategic planning activities and overseeing the accreditation initiative for both state and federal requirements; oversee the department budget; recruit and recommend candidates for open positions and handle personnel evaluations, internal promotions, rewards for superior performance, and coordination of progressive discipline; handle grievances, collective bargaining, and other union-related matters as needed; partner with the manager of emergency management and business continuity to develop and implement special event operation plans, disaster response and recovery, and conduct after action assessments; and handle other duties or special projects as needed.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED : at least fifteen years' experience in law enforcement and five years' supervisory experience; certification as a police officer in Massachusetts; ability to obtain and maintain police powers under MGL Chapter 22CS63; current and valid Massachusetts' Class A License to Carry a Firearm and driver's license; demonstrated emergency management experience; and ability to lead in a union environment. A bachelor's degree in criminal justice, law enforcement experience in a college/university, and graduation from the FBI National Academy are preferred. Job #16737-R
