Job Summary:
The Division of University Housing is committed to providing an exceptional workplace for its workforce of approximately 450 career staff members and over 2,000 students. University Housing operates nineteen residence halls across the University of Wisconsin-Madison campus, providing a home to over 7,500 undergraduate students. We also operate three apartment communities, serving about 2,500 graduate students, academic staff, postdoctoral researchers, faculty, and their families. In addition, we manage seven dining venues across campus, and provide conference group and youth camp housing throughout the summer months.

University Housing is divided into five main departments: Administration, Dining & Culinary Services, Residence Hall Facilities, Residence Life, and University Apartments. Whether we're launching new academic support services, testing out a new recipe, renovating resident rooms, organizing welcome events, cleaning our facilities, or inviting a new summer youth camp to campus, everything that we do is to support the mission of the University and fulfill University Housing's goal to be, "The place everyone wants to live."

University Apartments is a department within the Division of University Housing at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. As a student service organization, University Apartments provides on-campus housing, programs, and services for our residents. These services actively support the mission of the University while also meeting the needs of students, families, and guests by fostering the development of a residential community. The University Apartments staff provides these services to a community of approximately 2,500 residents in 1,247 apartments on 83 acres, who are primarily graduate students, staff, post-docs and their families; many of whom are international. All programs and services sponsored by University Apartments are funded through rent or user fees.

Under the general supervision of the Assistant Director of Apartment Facilities for Trades and Grounds, this position is responsible for general building/grounds maintenance and repair work by responding to request made through UA Repairs online work order system, verbal or written requests from residents, or verbal or written instructions from other staff or supervisors, which may be made by two-way radio communication. This position requires advanced level facilities repair and maintenance work which includes limited trades work below the journeyman level and a wide variety of tasks of a skilled and semi-skilled nature. The ability to work independently, with good judgment, in residents? homes and our licensed childcare facility is also required.

Requirements:
Driver's License
English Proficiency Required - This position requires one or more of the following abilities: ability to speak, read, write, and/or understand verbal instructions in English

Additional Requirements:
Required:
* Must maintain a driver's license which meets the UW Risk Management Standards.

Preference will be given to applicants with:
* One year of experience with snow removal in a commercial or complex residential setting.
* One year of experience with landscaping or municipal grounds work.
* Experience with tree trimming.
* Experience with vehicle or small engine maintenance.
* Experience working within University Housing.
* Experience working within in a University setting.

Physical Requirements:
* Perform heavy manual tasks including: Lifting, standing, walking, stooping, bending, twisting, squatting, kneeling, and other motions for extended period of time.
* Frequent lifting of objects weighing approximately 50 pounds and infrequent lifting of objects weighing approximately 100 pounds.
* Ability to climb and work at any reasonable height, and work from ladders and lifts as needed.


Schedule Comment:
7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, with occasional extended hours and on-call responsibilities, particularly during snow removal season.
