Degree and area of specialization:
Master's degree in chemistry, biological sciences, or medical technology (clinical laboratory science).

Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:
Minimum of 10 years of experience in clinical chemistry, Newborn Screening, or molecular laboratory testing required.

Minimum of 10 years of supervisory experience in a clinical laboratory is required.

Minimum of 10 years experience with laboratory operations managing daily administrative, fiscal, quality assurance, educational and research experience highly desirable.

Prior experience with EPIC software is preferred.

UW experience is a plus, with demonstrated commitment to working in a collaborative environment.
Knowledge of and experience with laboratory business operations including fiscal, administrative, and strategic planning.

Demonstrated skill and experience managing professional staff with diverse responsibilities.

Problem-solving skills and the ability to analyze and present solutions within team management required.

Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a collaborative, collegial team environment.

Position Summary:
The Newborn Screening (NBS) Lab Manager is responsible for managing the complex operational system in the Disease Prevention Division (DPD) Newborn Screening Program. The NBS is a revenue generating unit within the DP. This position will be responsible for the review and monitoring of departmental income/revenue statements and a budget in excess of $6 million. This position will be responsible for the management of a state wide Newborn Screening program residing within the DPD. This position is responsible for managing the programs associated with NBS clinical testing services, the day-to-day operational and budgetary management of all NBS clinical testing related activities with a focus on fiscal and business operations. In addition, this position will provide daily oversight to ensure the success of the educational and research mission of the laboratory. This position will be also be responsible for recommending, developing and maintaining safety protocols, the development and implementation of SOPs, policies and procedures, managing resources, maintaining inventories, purchasing testing equipment, and assisting with the development of experimental demonstrations for instructional purposes and new technologies to ensure the success of the NBS program. This position will be responsible for the oversight and supervision of testing/analysis personnel and work with the NBS staff to recommend and implement strategies to reform the climate and culture within the program, engaging supervisors and staff to assure the goals and priorities are accomplished. This position works with the NBS lab Directors who have responsibilities for the science, research and educational activities, clinical testing regulations and policies related to newborn screening. This position functions under the direction of the DPD Director and the WSLH Director.
