Degree and area of specialization:
Bachelor's degree preferred in a business or other related field.

Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:
1 year of department administration experience preferred.

A strong candidate will demonstrate:
1) the ability to establish and maintain excellent teamwork relationships and communication with other employees and to establish a good rapport with faculty, staff and students;
2) the ability to take initiative, accept responsibility, show accountability, and maintain integrity and confidentiality;
3) excellent analytical and organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously;
4) computer expertise with a variety of software programs including an advanced working knowledge of the full Microsoft Office Suite and Google G-Suite;
5) ability to delegate work load effectively and introduce new processes to increase efficiency;
6) knowledge of pertinent University, State, Federal and/or non-Federal rules and regulations;
7) knowledge of personnel policies relating to payroll, supervision, affirmative action, discipline, employee assistance, layoffs, training, and retention.

Title prefix will be assigned at the time of hire based on candidate qualifications and relevant work experience.

Position Summary:
The Department Administrator leads the Russell Labs Administrative Services Center (Services Center), which serves the Departments of Entomology, Forest and Wildlife Ecology, and Plant Pathology (Departments). Together, Russell Labs is one of the largest enterprises in the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences (CALS), with a staff of over 450 including faculty, staff, post-doctoral, graduate student, and student hourly employees. The position provides administrative leadership to support the research, teaching, extension, and service missions of the three departments, develops and coordinates administrative policy with department chairs and faculty director, and serves as the departments' representative in the day-to-day operation and administration. The department's annual expenditures in excess of $39 million from a variety of fund sources including state GPR operating funds, as well as federal and non-federal grants and contracts, UW Foundation and UW Trust funds, gifts, and revenue generating programs.

This position manages and coordinates the departments' administrative activities, to include policy and operations, staff supervision, financial administration, human resources administration, grant/contract administration, and liaison with relevant campus offices. This is a complex position due to the wide variety of activities and operations across the departments.
