The University of Cincinnati's College of Engineering & Applied Science is accepting applications for an Associate Director, Career Development and Placement. The Associate Director will work with Master of Engineering students on job search preparation and placement in capstone internship experiences. By extension, this individual will assist all CEAS graduate students by sharing career development materials and information. As the majority of graduate students are international, the Associate Director must know rules and regulations associated with student visas.

Responsibilities:

The Associate Director will be an integral part of the College of Engineering & Applied Science Graduate Office staff. The position will report to the Director of MEng programs and will have these primary responsibilities:
  • Provide responsive, informed, confidential, and professional group and individual advising to students about career development, placement, process, policies, timelines, and work authorization.
  • Develop job opportunities for engineering graduate students with a focus on companies that will hire international students.
  • Develop long-term working relationships with business and industry and respond to job opening requests by matching skilled students with employers.
  • Develop workshops, materials, and resources to assist graduate students with career development.
  • Coordinate with and publicize other workshop opportunities for graduate students.
  • Provide online content and resources regarding career and professional development (resume writing, interview skills, job search strategies, policies, procedures, etc.) in support of the MEng capstone course.
  • Approve Curricular Practical Training (CPT) for MEng students at the college level.
  • Use job search systems such as LinkedIn, Handshake, Careershift, and other resources and teach students to effectively use these systems.
  • Work closely with the MEng Program Director and MEng Program coordinator to develop, publish and practice consistent policies for MEng student capstone internships.
  • Collaborate with other offices on campus to develop, support and promote events and activities in support of graduate career development.
  • Maintain statistics of student CPT and OPT work experiences. Report semesterly on student placement.
  • Work with UC International to gather data each semester to update records.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree with three (3) years' experience; -OR- Associate's degree with five (5) years' experience; -OR- seven (7) years' experience; degree must be in counseling or a related field and experience must include administration and counseling in career planning and/or placement. Experience may also require at least one (1) year supervision.

Desired Qualifications:
  • Experience working with students regarding job readiness and job placement.
  • Experience in engineering or computer science.
  • Experience working with international students.
  • Experience developing and leading workshops or courses related to job placement.
  • Demonstrated customer service skills as they relate to working with students, particularly international students.
  • Proficiency with common tools used for job search.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication tools.
