Job Summary:
This position is the main point of initial contact for visitors and customers for the department. This will include daily customer service through phone, internet and in person walk in traffic. This position will need to learn the internal operations of the department and assist visitors and customers in obtaining the appropriate services and information they need.

This position is responsible for complex administrative duties in support of the Records Unit, Training, Accreditation and Personnel. This position is responsible for all departmental records entered into the Records Management System; review, evaluate, categorize all departmental reports; enter all information into a computer, review computer programs; prepare and furnish requested data for management, patrol, investigative, and educational needs; furnish structured statistical data for State and Federal records systems; periodically review departmental records systems for current updating; maintain and operate all office equipment in Records Bureau.

This position is responsible for research and documentation of law enforcement standards compliance and training efforts of the Department. This will include data entry of records into various systems for accreditation, training, and personnel; research, develop and coordinate training projects; and maintaining files related to accreditation, training and personnel.

This position requires attention to detail, the ability to handle multiple tasks and projects, use considerable independent initiative and judgment, and interpret complex rules, regulations and statutes governing business rules and operations.

Due to the nature of the position and the fact the person hired is an employee of a police department, persons in this position must pass the initial application screening, all steps of the hiring process, an extensive background investigation including credit history check, reference checks, drug screen, and psychological examination prior to beginning employment. Persons in this position must possess a valid Wisconsin Driver?s License and be eligible to operate University owned vehicles under the conditions outlined by UW Risk Management policies. Persons in this position are expected to dress in appropriate business or business casual attire.

PHYSCIAL EFFORT
In times of disaster, emergencies, or other stressful situation this employee may be required to put in long hours (12-20 or more hours at a stretch) with a limited number of off-duty breaks of short durations. This kind of stressful work application may continue up to two weeks.


Schedule Comment:
This position is considered an essential position for the University Campus. The final schedule worked will be discussed and agreed upon with UWPD management. In general, the hours will be during business hours Monday-Friday and they will need to meet the needs of the UWPD. Occasional work beyond or outside hours agreed upon may be required during emergencies, special events or as assigned.
