Position Summary Information

Position Summary
The Director of Facility Operations is responsible for the management and operation of the campus utility infrastructure, including the heating plant. The position is also responsible for the maintenance and minor construction activities performed by the Zone Maintenance staff in all campus buildings. The Director is responsible for five supervisors; one utility plant supervisor and four building maintenance foremen. Total staff responsibility is approximately 60 individuals.
Directs the maintenance and operation of the campus utility infrastructure including the heating plant.
Ensures the heating plant's boilers are properly maintained and periodically overhauled in order to maintain heat to campus buildings.
Ensures that the heating plant is in compliance with all DEP and EPA regulations associated with the plant's Title V operating permit. This includes verification that all necessary record keeping is correct and up-to-date.
Directs the preventative/corrective maintenance and minor construction activites for the campus buildingse as performed by the Zone Maintenance Staff.
Identifies and implements opportunities to improve customer service and the campus maintenance operations.
Participates in the maintenance oncall rotation, provides support for special campus events (Commencement etc.), and responds to campus emergencies as needed.
Ensures staff are properly trained and have maintained the necessary certifications to perform the essential functions of the their positions.
Provides direction to heating plant and zone maintenance staff on how to solve system and equipment problems.
Sets maintenance and repair priorities for all campus buildings and utility systems.
Interfaces with other facilities, planning and environmental safety staff on such items as design reviews, construction projects, safety and operational issues.
Manages service contracts such as water treatment and elevator maintenance.
Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
BS in Engineering or closely related field
7+ years in progressively responsible facilities and management experience.
Experience in utility infrastructure, building maintenance, and energy management.
Knowledge of EPA , OSHA , and UCC rules and regulations.supervising trades employees
Experience working with diverse populations
Successful performance in an on-campus interview

Preferred Qualifications
Master's Degree
Experience in working and supervising employees in a union environment.
Experience in Building Automation Systems
Familiarity with Zone Maintenance
Experience with Coal Fired Heating Plants
