Visiting Assistant Professor of Civil Engineering

If you would like to be a part of a professional, collaborative team devoted to making a significant and lasting impact on the lives of young engineers, the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Ohio Northern University invites you to apply for a visiting faculty position to begin August 12, 2019. The candidate's application letter should specifically address how the candidate meets the stated needs of our position within our undergraduate serving institution. Candidates should be committed to advancing the knowledge and practice of engineering pedagogy. Candidates will join faculty in our first year in a new, state of the art 105,000 sq.ft. engineering building designed to allow more opportunities for high-impact learning. ONU is part of the Kern Entrepreneurial Engineering Network and is committed to instilling the entrepreneurial mindset in our undergraduate engineering students. The position will include travel funds, opportunities for faculty development, and one month of summer salary support during the summer of 2020. It is expected that as the College of Engineering continues to grow, an additional tenure-track position in the department will be created.

Scope:
Full time, two-year visiting faculty position within the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department. The appointment will be made at the Assistant Professor level.

Principal Responsibilities
Teaching of introductory, college-wide courses (such as Statics, Strength of Materials, Computer Applications, and Fluid Mechanics) is expected. The candidate may also be responsible for an introductory level course in their specialty area

Required Skills:
The applicant must be committed to teaching excellence in undergraduate education and must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills. Candidates with a specialty from all aspects of civil engineering are encouraged to apply.

Minimum Qualifications:
PhD candidates in Civil Engineering, in a Civil Engineering Sub-Discipline, or in Engineering Education (with a prior degree in civil engineering).

Preferred Qualifications:
An earned Ph.D. in Civil Engineering, a Civil Engineering Sub-Discipline, or Engineering Education (with a prior degree in civil engineering) is preferred. Degree requirements must be completed before the date of employment. Industry experience, teaching experience, and professional licensure will be viewed favorably.
