Columbus State University has openings for Teaching Artists in their Empowered Youth of Columbus (EYC) After School Program for at-risk youth within the Department of Continuing and Professional Education (CPE). These are temporary, part-time, grant funded positions with an opportunity to teach for summer camp, and is renewable. The successful candidate will provide arts enrichment classes for EYC. This position requires a flexible schedule due to evening events and will report to the EYC Program Director.
Responsibilities
The selected candidates will lead a class of approximately 15-20 students (grades 3-5) assisted by Program Assistants. Teaching Artists will work with EYC leadership staff to develop the overall curriculum framework and will be responsible for daily lesson plans. Lessons should have a cumulative project that can be displayed or performed at the end of the semester art receptions. Disciplines will focus on visual and performing arts including but not limited to drama, music, painting, dance, yoga, communication, graphic design, creative writing, poetry, ceramics, gardening, gymnastics, drill team, etc. Additional responsibilities include attendance at an orientation meeting and monthly professional development training; attend and help facilitate all EYC events; and all other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Minimum qualifications include advanced study in fine or performing arts; have a body of work in visual arts, performance arts, or extensive classroom experience in either discipline. The selected candidate must have excellent interpersonal and organizational as well as excellent oral and written communication skills. Candidates should be available one to five afternoons per week in 2-hour blocks, Mondays to Fridays from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm. Disciplines will focus on visual and performing arts including (but not limited to) drama, music, painting, dance, yoga, communication, graphic design, creative writing, poetry, ceramics, gardening, gymnastics, drill team, and etc.
Proposed Salary
The salary is commensurate with education and experience.
