Degree and area of specialization:
MS in engineering or physical sciences preferred. BS degree in engineering or physical sciences and experience equivalent to MS will be considered.

Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:
5 or more years of direct experience in the management, design and development of complex instrumentation systems. In addition, well qualified candidates will also have:
- Experience in leadership and management of teams of scientists, engineers, and technicians in a large collaborative environment.
- Experience in the design and implementation of systems for evaluating project progress.
- An understanding of how to identify and arrange for technical resources needed to support project implementation.
- An ability to solve complex problems in a timely and effective manner.
- Excellent communication and personnel management skills.
- Experience in the management of high-value contracts.
- Experience in the management of large scale, technically complex projects (between $10M to $100M).

Position Summary:
The IceCube Neutrino Observatory at the South Pole Station is the preeminent facility for high energy neutrino multimessenger astronomy. It was built by the US National Science Foundation (NSF) and foreign partners and has been in operation for nearly a decade with an acclaimed, diverse science program that has yielded multiple scientific breakthroughs. The IceCube Upgrade is a 5-year $23M NSF-supported project with additional contributions of $12M from non-NSF sources. It will extend IceCube with an additional array of dense optical sensors to measure neutrino oscillation parameters and to perform a precision characterization of the ice to boost the performance of the IceCube instrument. The Upgrade project additionally lays the groundwork necessary to undertake future larger scale facility enhancements forecast for the next decade.

The Wisconsin IceCube Particle Astrophysics Center (WIPAC) manages IceCube operations and the Upgrade project and is seeking qualified candidates for Project Manager of the Upgrade. The Project Manager is responsible for and has authority over the technical execution of the project, and will lead a project office team located within WIPAC and project technical leads distributed among US and non-US collaborating institutions to ensure that the operation of the project team meets the expectations of the National Science Foundation and other stakeholders. The Project Manager reports to the Principal Investigator and works closely with them in executing this oversight.
