Degree and area of specialization:
Ph.D. required with specialization in East Asia (preference for contemporary Korea or Japan); field experience in East Asia and competence in at least one major East Asian language required.
Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:
We seek an East Asianist highly committed to administrative work and familiar with research and teaching. We strongly prefer candidates with a demonstrated record in academic administration, grant writing, and fundraising. Familiarity with Title VI National Resource Center and FLAS fellowship programs preferred. The successful applicant must also possess excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills to manage the Center for East Asian Studies large constituency and various administrative responsibilities, and to work with key partners at the University and in the community.

Position Summary:
A Title VI-funded National Resource Center with a FLAS fellowship program, the Center for East Asian Studies (CEAS) was founded in 1962 and is made up of more than 80 UW-Madison faculty and academic staff members who work on East Asia. Faculty and staff are based in departments; the Center supports their research and teaching while offering an undergraduate certificate and a Ph.D. minor. The Center also maintains an active outreach presence in schools and the broader community. CEAS is part of the Institute for Regional and International Studies (IRIS), housed in the University's International Division with eight other area studies centers.
