Job Summary:
The Wisconsin Center for Dairy Research (CDR) is one of the premier dairy research centers in the United States. CDR serves as a national leader in strategic research to improve the competitive position of the dairy industry by linking Center/University faculty, staff, students and the dairy/food industries in order to address key issues resulting in the transfer of technology and communication of information. CDR has approximately $4.8 million a year budget; the majority comes from industry (revenue generating) and gift/grant funds. This position is responsible for developing and maintaining financial data and appropriate recordkeeping systems for a variety of funding sources including 101, 133, 136, 150, and 233. Payrolled personnel averages 35 including academic and classified staff, as well as LTE's and student hourly workers.

The Financial Specialist's (FS) duties involve the financial administration for the WI Center for Dairy Research, while supporting the Center's overall research mission. The FS position respresents the Center through personal contact with Accounting Services, Research and Sponsored Programs, as well as with UW Purchasing, Accounts Payable, internal and external vendors, (funding agency personnel, travel agents, the general public etc.) and CALS Business Services. The FS performs a wide variety of complex departmental financial/accounting functions, including management of the Center's electronic journal, maintenance of all program financial records, tracking of purchases and payments and implementation of CDR's billing system. This position requires exercising a high level of independent decision making ability regarding these functions (and following standard policies).
