Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM-5:00 PM;this is a three-year temporary position and is to end on or before June 30, 2021 with a possibility of renewal if program needs exist.

About the Position:
The Office of Research and Sponsored Projects (ORSP) works with other units throughout campus to seek external support for faculty research, creative activity and institutional projects that support the educational and service mission of the university. ORSP staff assist with proposal development, proposal submission to external funding agencies, post award support, and help to assure that research and sponsored programs are conducted in accordance with the highest ethical and regulatory standards. We are seeking an exceptional individual to join our team as a Research Grant Specialist, NSM (Administrative Analyst/Specialist-Exempt II) to promote and support research grant funding with a special focus in Natural Sciences and Mathematics (NSM) research fields. The ideal candidate in this role should have a positive attitude and an active, energetic mind that is characterized by highly ethical practices and a commitment to diversity, openness, flexibility, integrity, and kindness.

Under general supervision, the NSM Research Grant Specialist works collaboratively and in close coordination with the Office of Research and Sponsored Projects, college dean and associate dean, department chairs, college development team, faculty and staff, and campus administrators to stimulate proposal-writing by facilitating the grantsmanship needs and skills of faculty. Assists with funding opportunity searches to identify appropriate funding resources. Identifies and matches opportunities to faculty interests, disseminates opportunities broadly to faculty, and assists faculty in the
analysis of funding announcements to determine appropriateness of the opportunity. Provides expert knowledge with the proposal development process within the designated college. Provides support for faculty through consultations on proposals, hands-on proposal development, and proposal review. Provides budget development support. Reviews grant proposal narratives. Collects and prepares support documents such as letters of support, bio sketches, and other related materials required during the pre-award process. Participates in staff meetings. Works in a collegial and supportive manner with the Office of Grants and Contracts, the Office of Research Compliance, the Office of Sponsored Programs, the University Advancement Office, as well as with the Director of Development for the designated college. Coordinates all pre-proposal efforts through the Office of Research and Sponsored Projects to ensure continuity. Other duties as assigned.


Essential Qualifications:
Bachelors degree from an accredited four-year college or university and/or the equivalent training and administrative work experience involving the study, analysis, evaluation, development or improvement of administrative policies, procedures, practices or programs plus four years of related experience. Working knowledge of and the ability to apply standard theories, principles, practices, and techniques applicable to the program and/or administrative specialty to develop conclusions and make recommendations. Thorough knowledge of the policies, procedures, and outside regulations pertaining to the applicable program and/or administrative specialty. Working knowledge of operational and fiscal analysis and techniques. Ability to take initiative and plan, organize, coordinate, and perform work in various situations where numerous and diverse demands are involved. Skilled in the research, development, and evaluation of policies and programs. Ability to collect, evaluate, and interpret data to develop sound conclusions and make appropriate recommendations. Expertise in investigating and analyzing problems with broad administrative impact and implications. Ability to anticipate problems, address them proactively, and develop appropriate recommendations leading to solutions. Demonstrated ability to effectively interpret, organize, and present information and ideas in written or presentation form and use consultative and facilitation skills to gain consensus. Ability to train others on new skills and procedures and provide lead work direction. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access, and Outlook. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively both orally and in writing. Ability to establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships with others.

A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.
