Degree and area of specialization:
Bachelor's degree is required. A degree in Computer Science, Biomedical Informatics, or related area is preferred.

Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:
Required:
-The competitive candidate will have at least 5 years' experience using relational database management system including programming.
-Experience of working in a clinical research setting;
-Experience with clinical data and research systems such as REDCap or OnCore;
-Proficiency in SQL and SQL scripts;
-Significant experience with database security and compliance including: HIPAA compliance, and Good Clinical Practices (GCP);
-Demonstrable programming skills in languages such as SAS scripting, Python, Perl.
-Strong organizational, analytical, verbal and written communication skills, and interpersonal skills.

Preferred:
-7 or more years of relevant experience;
-Experience Oracle and/or Netezza database administration;
-Experience working in a clinical research setting, specifically extracting data from systems such as EHR and mining data from clinical data warehouses;
-Data warehouse implementation; installation and configuration of i2B2; and ontology development;
-Knowledge of HIPAA and other regulations governing EHR data;
-Experience with Informatica ETL tools.

Position Summary:
Working in the Biomedical Informatics Core (BMI) of the Institute of Clinical and Translational Research (ICTR) and the Enterprise Analytics of UW-Health, the successful candidate will provide planning, implementation, delivery, programming and ongoing maintenance of directed IT services supporting research and administrative activities including the Institute for Clinical and Translational Research (ICTR), the UW Carbone Cancer Center (UWCCC), the Alzheimer's Disease Research Center (ADRC) and other key SMPH research institutions and groups. The incumbent will also provide expertise in the development of joint projects between the SMPH and the Enterprise Analytics of UW Health. This position works under the direction of the School of Medicine and Public Health's Associate Dean for Biomedical Informatics. This position will join a team of ~20 colleagues operating from both UW Madison and UW Health offices, including other analysts, programmers, and systems administrators, all of whom contribute to clinical informatics providing data services to translational research.
