Degree and area of specialization:
Ph.D. in the biochemical sciences with an emphasis on either biochemistry, molecular/cell biology, immunology, genetics, or related field required.

Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:
Recent Ph.D.'s as well as experienced candidates are welcomed to apply. Research experience in at least one of the following areas is required: molecular biology, biochemistry, cell biology, genetics or immunology. Experience working with transgenic mouse colonies is highly desired. Expertise in one or the more of following skills/techniques is required: Immunofluorescence/immunohistochemistry, confocal imaging, mammalian cell culture (gene knockdown, overexpression, transduction), RNA and protein work, ChIP, co-IP, multicolor FACS analysis, FlowJo analysis, mouse models of disease/autoimmunity, or prior experience on handling large data sets (RNAseq, proteomics). The candidate should also have scientific writing skills evidenced by manuscript, grant or fellowship writing experience.

Position Summary:
The Engin Laboratory is focused on understanding how cellular stress response pathways play a role in beta cell biology and diabetes. Current projects involve studying molecular mechanisms of the unfolded protein response (UPR) signaling pathway in autoimmune diabetes. The work involves phenotyping the tissue specific mouse models of the UPR and mechanistic studies using cell culture, biochemical and immunological assays. -omics studies and analysis. The ideal candidate is expected to be a creative, productive and self-motivated individual with the ability to think critically, learn quickly and function both independently and within a team.
