Job Summary:
This position is responsible for AM shift young calf care; feeding, cleaning, vaccinating and general care of calves. Communicating with other calf feeders on the AM and PM shift so there is no lapse in care of DFRC's future lactating cows is critical. This position will treat animal health issues during their shift under the direction of herd supervisor, foreman or veterinarian. This position also assists in other areas of farm operations as the need arises. This position works under close supervision progressing to general supervision in a short time.

To be successful in this position you must also exhibit a positive working attitude, communicate well and develop a good working relationship with co-workers and supervisors and show initiative to see what needs to be done and to get it done.

Ability to lift 50 pounds
A criminal background check (CBC) will be conducted

Mandatory safety certification/training once hired:
1. RARC Animal User Orientation online, RARC species specific training online (Biomethodology of cattle), and 1 on 1 hands on instruction
a. "Biomethodology of Cattle" (cattle handling) and supplemental videos listed below:
i. Chute Safety
ii. How to get a cow up
iii. Restraint Halter
2. Safety training for animal users, done by Biosafety in EH&S, subgroup for an online animal safety training
3. UHS- Animal contact risk questionnaire (ACRQ)

Schedule Comment:
Shifts are 10 hours per day (3:30 am to 2:00pm)
Rotate weekends and holidays
