Position Summary
The Associate Director of Counselor Training manages the graduate training programs, and provides clinical supervision to graduate fellows and interns as needed. The Associate Director also provides short-term counseling, crisis intervention, and mental health outreach services to enhance the psychological and emotional welfare of students and the College community.

Essential Functions
Offer of employment is contingent upon successful completion of a criminal background check.

Administrative
  • Develops and articulates protocols and organizational strategies to support the Counseling training programs.
  • Provides training for the Counseling graduate training programs, develops training curriculum, ensures standardized practices for supervision, coordinates supervision of interns, oversees intern scheduling in consultation with other counseling staff, and nurtures relationships with graduate programs that sponsor interns.
  • Assists in reviewing office documentation and clinical record documentation monitoring compliance with various state and professional standards.
  • Assists in the development of Counseling policies and procedures.
  • Manages departmental functions as directed by the executive director such as special projects or other departmental or College programs.
  • Reviews and recommends appropriate assessment instruments and other clinical interventions and mental health programs for students.
  • Must handle confidential information appropriately.
  • Maintains highest ethical standards according to Vermont statutes and standards in the mental health professions.

    Consultation
    Provides clinical consultation to Counseling graduate fellows and interns.
    Provides consultation support and occasional in-service training to faculty, administrators, staff, and diversity and inclusion offices.
    Consults and collaborates with counseling, medical, psychiatry, and wellness staff within an integrated health environment, as well as with community resources, to enhance effective treatment and assessment of students with diverse life needs and/or various mental health presentations.
    Works collaboratively with others, including multidisciplinary mental health and College medical staff, deans and student life staff.

    Direct Counseling
  • Provides intake clinical interviews, short-term individual and couples counseling, group counseling, and psychoeducational groups.
  • Provides clinical triage and crisis intervention, case management, and collaboration with psychiatry.
  • Provides referrals to and consultation with academic and student affairs offices and health care providers on-campus and off-campus.
  • Maintains case notes and other documentation according to best practices and Counseling office policies.
  • Maintains appropriate state licensing and/or certifications to practice in Vermont.
  • Demonstrates experience and expertise in cross-cultural and multicultural individual, group counseling and outreach services.
  • Performs related responsibilities as necessary to properly assess and counsel students.

    General Responsibilities
  • Performs other related duties as required.
  • Works collaboratively with others, including multidisciplinary mental health and College medical staff, deans and student life staff.

    Qualifications
    Education
    Ph.D., Psy.D., or equivalent in clinical field. Formal training in clinical assessment and counseling. Demonstrated skills and experience in multi-cultural counseling and clinical supervision.

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
    Must maintain and update knowledge of current assessment and counseling techniques and professional license and/or certificates.

    Experience
    3 - 5 years of clinical experience required.
